If that doesn't fix the issue then go to Options > Device > Storage and ensure you've got few MB free space for Application Storage. If that's all good then I would attempt to upgrade the OS. Look on Blackberry site or search google if you need help with this. Good luck.

You would have had to set up some form of tracking app on the device in order to locate it. I don't believe there is a way to add this without having access to the phone.
