i don't find ths so called Hook.. Innovative design in any kind.. first of all it is not a big issue to press 2 buttons to unlock th keypad..it is ergonomically in correct..it took a long tyme to get rid of that Anteena v had in previous mobiles.."the only benefit of ths design will b to manufacturers who will make money by replacing broken mikes..
innovation shud always b gud.. n.. in th correct direction..htc shift,samsung marine,Samsung Blue Earth,nokia 7600,7700,7710,7280,5700,Moto Razor,Lg Chocolate & even Gigabyte i120.. these are called innovative n Constructive design's.. many of thm wer not a bog hit to th market.. bt they gave much more to mobile Designing Era..

I would suggest something else as an interesting design: a slider touch phone with the sliding part being actually a secondary touch screen (similar to the LG Crystal concept), extending the display to the sliding part, creating a higher (almost double) resolution either vertically (if it slides as a qwerty keyboard) or horizontally (if it slides as a usual numeric keypad.

the worst news iv ever come across, surely you do the same amount of work by pressing two buttons or pulling a hook? this seriously isn't innovation!

The only thing that this hooks seems to be doing is to make the user have a look on his phone and see if it is locked or not. But the price to pay is not justified.

this can be a great design if the material used is strong enough like steel and the prostitution is done from the inside of the phone automatically like a stylus or a knife-like Mic. the microphone example for small phones can be the killer application.
Maybe a stand for the phone to stand up straight or horizontally.
Don't like it as an keypad unlock device, as its more combustion than a simple slide button at the side.
Maybe an internal antenna for the FM/AM radio or a flip to unveil the joystick button, or a finger print scanner.

I'm a Nokia fan. But I don't adore this creation. Apropos to its unconventionality but with regards to it's "looks", nu-uh. It looks cheap and it resembles a mobile phone toy.

i'm not actually surprised by the impractical design but actually by the fact that gsmarena though it was worth publishing ... it looks silly , definately impractical ... i think this designer has not seen dedicated key lock buttons on fones ... or yet, even a slider fone ...

I cant find any point of making this design.
For locking and unlocking of keypad it is better to follow what MOTOROLA gives in their handset MOTO ROCKR E6, E8, EM 30(which im using) --- the sliding button is far more user frindly than flicking or sliding the hook.
And if somebody is talking about the placing of microphone then also the present position of fitting the microphone is better than fitting it on that HOOK.

Sony Ericsson already address this locking mechanism issue with their G900 where you only need to press one button that is located on the side of the phone to either lock or unlock the keypad/screen. The G900 lock/unlock button is innovative, sensible, and effective. As for the mic, I see potential problems in the electrical connection of the mic to the handset...just like how some of the old Motorola flip phones (i.e., clam shell) that used to have problems with their flex cable (Old notebooks also experienced similar issues with flex cables too).

This reminds me of my first chunky Motorola from almost 15 years ago, which had a thin cover over the keypad and hinged at the bottom to expose the keys and microphone while making the phone seem longer like typical wired handsets at the time. And it was such a wide phone that the SIM card was a full smart card that slid into a slot on the bottom of the phone, rather than the small, notched rectangle that we punch out of the smart card base these days!

Daft idea! What nonsense! The mic doesn't have to be close to the mouth. As for locking, a slider switch or button on the side is much better. This thing will only break or wear out - a complete waste of time. Maybe if you made the hook out of gold or platinum, and sold it as a high end fone, maybe someone will be gullible enough to buy this. People pay a fortune for a Vertu fone, and it does nothing special.

For me the best phone form is the Nokia 6210. Right size for my thumb to reach each keys without bending too much. Screen size is perfect, battery life is more than adequate (up to 4 days !!). Weight is also not an issue.
How I wish Nokia can re-issue this same design and form with new faster processor and features; bluetooth, 3G and PIM function is already sufficient.
