It says you can drag and drop from any PC with the USB cable like a removable drive. I think thats great news because I do use itunes and I would love to still have the option of not.

WebOS is based on Webkit which is open source and was developed by Apple, Palm has based their OS on a web browser which accesses local content, I don't think that more powerful applications will be able to be made for it, Palm haven't released an SDK for it so it's impossible to tell if it's more capable than running some sort of widgets.

Webkit is used by Apple in it's Safari web browser and mail Apps, Nokia for their S60 browser, Google for it's Chrome browser and others, it's OPEN SOURCE there will be no sueing of anyone based on it's use.

What Apple holds patents on are specific ways of interacting with touchscreens, if Palm copies them it is up to a court to decide.

Apple released the Newton a touchscreen device years before Palm even existed.

first of all apple did not invent multitouch. they just put multitouch on a phone first so they hv no right to sue palm bcos it is not their invention. that wud b like palm suing apple cos iphone uses a touchscreen and touchscreens were on palm products way b4 apple.
OS looks similar? maybe slightly but webos has cards and not that boring black backround for its apps menu. also following ur logic, neonode shud sue apple cos they were the 1st phone manufacturer who had a touchscreen that u cud swipe ur finger to scroll thru menus. and they had slide to unlock b4 the ist iphone was released.

> In reply to Mizuchi @ 2009-05-30 13:42 from Rrtc - click to readYes Mizuchi, because there is ONE guy in a huge company that is responsible for the entire source code of Mac OS Mobile and he had a copy on a flash drive.

Palm WebOS is HTML and CSS sitting on top of linux. To take Mac OS mobile and make it into WebOS is quite an accomplishment.

And what is the name of this "programmer" and where are you online sources?

omG you guys are weird looks like you really don't like to read much
oh here it goes
t there was a man that worked for apple and he was a programmer he later quite his job and when ovr to palm he later made WebOS if you notice is y similar to OSX
and that's because he was on of the dprogrammers for the OS that apple has
theWebOS and OSx mobile are highly similar cause of that and now apple is sueing palm for the WebOS design cause the former apple emplyee took the patent and made WebOS with it
and for the multitouch .... That's a joke caase apple shouldn't be sueing anyong since they stole it in the first place from some spanish guys lol

It all sounds nice but it doesnt change the fact that the handset looks like a cheap cousin of the Samsung Earth, did it have to resemble a giant pebble?
The features and OS look great but Palm, please fire your designers and make somehting that at least looks the part.

Almost any current design PDA/ Smartphone is identifide by nearly all existing desktops/laptops as a storage device, with the ability to exchange data, although with limited contacts support

where exactly is either the "good news" or "ground breaking" technology in this information???

why resort to sensationalising what we already know?

> In reply to [deleted post]Mizuchi what you are saying is not true. Apple is not suing Palm over the OS, but the multi-gesture features in the phone. This is more so the function of the type of touchscreen (capacitive) and the gestures you are able to perform.

The G1 could also have the same gestures but the avoided it like the plague. If they did Apple would have put their lawyers on them too.

go to the engadget website and put this at the end of the dot com /2009/01/28/apple-vs-palm-the-in-depth-analysis/

Care to enlighten us? I always thought the iPhone OS was a dumbed down version of OS X, which is a tarted up version of a version of UNIX.
