Don't be misled by the MP3 ringtones spec, this phone has a very low sound quality when it comes to ringtones even the midi ones.

I have bought this phone but I'm reselling it after being deceived, mainly because the official statement says that the phone's contacts can be synced by bluetooth with the samsung software. But I have tried everything both on the computer and the phone (e1130B), but the phone simply doesn't bring out the request to confirm computer access to the phone for syncing.

So, besides the Syncing issue (very important for me), here are other bad things about this phone:

- doesn't handle a vcf file containing more than one contact (sending all phonebook form my SE to this one always fails)
- no text copy/past (useful for memo/messaging)
- unpractical keyboard functions (software) for message writing (Please Learn from SonyEricsson!)
- the keyboard's top part doesn't have backlight!
- operating the phone is slow (time for un-locking the phone, boring 2-seconds-visual-alerts) (has to learn from SE too. my 3-yr-old k320 enables me to do things very quickly and put it back in the pocket in a flash.)
- no info/text field in phonebook for contacts
- phonebook names have a limit of 20 characters only (try to put arabic names on your phonebook...)
- can't disable the on/off sound in normal profile
- can't disable the gprs icon on the network indicator, a function which i will never use.

Of course it's an excellent phone for being rugged and resistive, plus with the generous battery life and great organizer, but no I won't be stuck with its awful limitations.
Samsung only needs to make one more step at making these "low profile" phones more powerful and satisfactory, and I'll be waiting for the upgraded product...

hello samsung,

please make a dual sim with this type (rugged) of phone. if you can carryover all the body design of this E1130B and improve further the battery...you'll have the winner. after 10 months of using this mobile phone, i learn to love it and does't want to use any other basic mobile phone.

great keyboard (one of the best points)
and also great autonomy. Compact dimensions, it's a good point.
flashlight finally useful
Small welcome applications (eg timer or memo)
but question: I thought I saw that it was compatible java MIDP2 but how to launch / install .jar files? (I transfer them to the phone)

About internet, it works, but the screen is too small,
Maybe ok for wap sites, but if you want to really browse in the internet go for a larger screen. Really limited in this point.

I can read it even at 12 o'clock bright sun. Colors
do fade and you might have to leave economy mode off and put brightness to maximum. But you can always read
the faded (by sun light) screen no matter the angle. This is better then my SE for wich I have to put the hand over to read at bright sun. So I think it is not bad.

I've just bought a Nexus One smartphone but frankly, much prefer this Samsung E1130 and still use it as my main phone.
GOOD: Battery life lasts 10-12 days with power settings switched off; simple design; handy features you don't expect from a cheap phone. Good tactile key feedback
BAD: Menus not as intuitive as Nokia; slow response when typing successive letters from the same key e.g- oFFer, sOOner. Thin, small typeface for SMS messages.

A great basic phone; really should be thicker and heavier for better feel in pocket. 8.5/10

How good is the the display outdoors?
I am asking because the display of similar Samsung model (E1100) is very weak outdoors.
With b/w displays like on my old phone readability outdoors (sunlight) is normally not a problem, but with colour displays it is more a problem.
Can somebody please recommend low end phone with good colour display for outdoor use.

Hi, I just got one of these. Very cheap, but for a simple phone looks like it is very complete. I just
need to do calls and SMS, and bluetooth for car use. very rare connection to internet (did not try this yet).

Small but nice to hold firmly.

Call sound is ok. Call rings very "hearable" wich is nice. FM radio plays too much loud for my taste with the headphones, in the minimum level (in ambient silence) and you cannot turn on radio speaker without the headphones connected (headphone wired antenna).

Very impressive announced standby time.

I am very happy I have bought it.

The upper two rows of keys do not get lit by the keyboard light, wich is the only little annoyance
I have found. But you find them easily once you are aware of that.

Hello,

I Bought this phone 2 weeks ago because my sony Ericsson K770 batt is really to die.

The reason i bought this phone was for the bluetooth and the weather dust... (cheap price)

One thing i found out the keypad lock you can turn off!! That's what so irritating!!!!!!

Its Configration then phone(4) then autokeypad lock(3) on turn it off

Problem solved

Only minus on the phone is the 1 mb memory. Because i like simple mp3 tones to switch there's only 2 tones te put on it and the memory is full.

Butt my final conclusion:

Great phone with a subliem battery status
and bluetooth for me carkid!!!

this is indeed a very good basic phone aside from the very annoying flaw which i will explain later. i will post more of my experince about this phone after a couple of days. battery performance seems to be very good. my biggest disappointment about this phone (and another samsung phone of mine, E2100B) is the auto keypad lock feature after you respond to a voice call or after you respond to the alarm. the keypad lock does not return to locked position immediately. WTF?! are samsung engineers crazy? all other phones i've used (nokia, siemens, benq-siemens, Eten, samui, and all other cheap china-made dual-sim phones automatically return to keypad lock position after you respond to a voice call or alarm (stop or snooze. this phone doesn't do it and you need to wait for the time (you set) for the keypad to lock. anyway...more reviews to come about this phone.
