There is a lot of positive comment of the Acer F900 on this forum and even criticism of someone who dared to criticise it. I wish I could join you. As an early adopter I paid £380, probably twice as much as many of you did but I have just retired this expensive brick. Where do I begin? From Day One, it kept switching off by itself, until I found it needed a firmware upgrade, thanks to the forums and no thanks to Acer. That's sorted, but now, the on-off button turns it off but cannot turn it back on. To restart, I have to remove and replace battery! Battery life is woeful - after 6-7 hours (less than normal working day) it needs charging, so I keep the PDA hooked up to power wherever I go, like somebody on life support. It came with GPS, but Tomtom Navigator still doesn't support it so I can't use it. Took it on holiday and found that the charger was intolerant of voltage fluctuation (20v variation) and would not charge, leaving me without a phone for 2 weeks in a foreign country. When taking a call, the whole PDA goes blank, so I cannot check diary or note down a number. The Speed Dial index is in such small fonts that hitting the right one is by trial and error. Where do I stop? It's a lot of money to throw away and I'm going back to having a cheap light phone that just works.

I assume you are referring to Application Software for the phone. I hope you have installed Microsoft Active Sync (on XP) or Microsoft Device Centre (on Vista).
Application for phones are available in two formats: a) Cab files, and b) exe files or msi files.
a) If your phone application is a cab file, copy it to any location on to the phone (preferably the storage card) and then just tap it from explorer to install it. Applications can be installed either to the storage card or to main memory. I install critical applications to the main memory and less frequently used ones to the Storage card.
b) exe files are required to be run on the PC with the phone connected to a PC in Activesync mode. Everything else is the same as a).
In case you are refering to an OS up-date for the phone, I highly recommend you install the latest Acer 2.001.00 firmware. This release is stable and as per my observation the battery life has improved by more than double. A few Cooked ROMS are available for the F900 and IMO none of them are bug free & stable.
Happy WinMoing...

At the price of 250 euros (15/12/2009) is one of the best WM phones out there.
CPU, 800x640 screen & GPS is realy fantastic!
RAM, batery & camera could be beter.
With some software improvements and updates, and with ACER Shell off this phone offers all you need for daily use.

* Superb 3.8", 800X480 Display, best for internet.
* Strangely Storage memory shows up as only 122.54 MB, whereas Spec is 256 MB.
* Signal reception is under average. Not as good as a Nokia.
* 128 MB RAM on the lower side, but perfectly usable without the acer shell. I'm using with Resco Explorer today plugin.
* Wi-Fi works fine, so does the GPS.
* Hangs once a week or so.
* Battery life is about 2 full days (with phone switched off during night).

> In reply to Rizan @ 2010-02-26 21:21 from mT%v - click to readmaybe your experience in pda phones was very bad. and doesnt have enough knowledge. windows mobile still have some issues. But in regards of support acer is the best trying to fix problems and errors. Your problem is very simple and needs only firmware update for the batt. please dont post comments unethical.
