The phone is about to hit the market as we speak. The last moment developments are being done to the firmware. Expect the phone launch in some markets within the next 1-4 weeks. And for the ones wondering what if the phone gets new software and i buy the phone early, don't worry... you can update the firmware from your own PC on this phone. For more info email me on un112@msn.com

i agree with Don and nelson...
never compare one thing with another.. apple should be compared with apple, not with other fruits...
5800 is touchscreen and high mid-end phone... this one is not...

> In reply to Jamaica @ 2009-07-03 18:44 from M66Beventhough this question is directed at KR, i would like to add my 2cents' worth, if you don't mind:
I think it is unfair to compare this phone to the Omnia and 5800..as both of them costs twice as much as the OT800 (correct my if i am wrong). This phone is designed for messenging on the cheap..with QWERTY keyboard layout, as compared to smartphones and touchscreens. honestly i can't think of any competitor right now, in the price range, for this phone.

Knight Rider, you claimed to have used this phone for two weeks, how do you compare this with Samsung Omnia or Nokia 5800 Music Express?

No, no TV out will be put into this model nor was it ever planned. Those kind of features are more suitable for smartphones which Alcatel is working on.
Release date is somewhere in August, right now the phone is going through its final tests.

Knight Rider, is alcatel not planning to add feature in this model like TV (with TV record) or maybe even TV out function. It will be very nice if this TV or TV out function be added into this model plus (if possible) handwriting recognition feature. If this will happen, I will sell my NOKIA 5800 MUSIC express for this.

Thanks for clearing that up Nelson :) .
As for the specs they have been finalized a while ago, the wifi is obviously not included but I did strong suggest to consider it for a future qwerty model like this. Although technically speaking wifi is a luxury feature... like for smartphones, it would indeed make this a KILLER deal, especially with Opera mini already included.
I can only recommend the phone very much, it is a GREAT handset. Estimated price should lie around 100-120$.

I think we should go to Cellatel.com to look at the official specs...the American site had updated their website much faster than the International site

I am even thankful to you and I agree with you. I am just sharing everything I can because I am honestly planning to own this model in all the way I can when it is available in the Philippines. Ifever my post sounds sarcastic here, please forgive me but I don't intend to do it. I am just hoping that this model will be available in our country soon. Thanks buddy.

Hi KR,
Fantastic..could you tell them that it would be even better for them to include wifi (3G is less important im my opinion) in some of their models, like this one. And they don't have to bother with 5MP cameras etc..3 mp would suffice for Alcatel's markets, IMHO.if they do include wifi into this model, it would be a killer product.
By the way, pls ask them where the hell is their Malaysian distributors? haha
