Xiaomi has teamed up with Google to bring the Mi Box with 4K streaming and Android TV built in. Xiaomi has announced it will also be the first OEM to team up with Google for its new VR platform called Daydream, all built on Android N.
This new sleek box will be HDR TV-ready and 4K compatible. It will be able to feed UHD (4K) video content at 60fps for the sharpest and smoothest video playback quality. It will also support HDMI 2.0a, a new standard of HDTV thatíll be enabled with the release of Android N. YouTube, Netflix, Vudu, and FandangoNOW are onboard for the new HDMI standard and HDR10 standard which promises to provide an improved viewing experience with pictures with high dynamic range.
The Mi Box will be Android TV powered, so youíll have access to the Google Play store in order to consume and install the best Android games and apps for TVs that developers have to offer. The box will have a quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU and Mali 450 GPU with 2GB of DDR3 RAM to work with and 8GB of onboard storage. Youíll be able to insert a USB flash-drive in order to increase the amount of onboard storage, though, pretty convenient.
Accessories would include a Bluetooth voice remote much like todayís other internet connected TV boxes such as the Amazon Fire TV or new Apple TV with Siri. There is also talk of a Mi Game Controller to, of course, play games directly on your TV via your Android TV powered Mi Box. The Xiaomi Mi Box is launching in the US, which is a big deal because this could be Xiaomiís big entry into the US market. There is no release date or price just yet, but we expect it to be reasonable given Xiaomiís history of providing affordable devices.
