The available memory on the iPhone 4s with 8GB will be around 6 - 6.5GB.

Anyways, apple support page gives the following instructions:
In Settings, tap General, and then tap Software Update. Follow the onscreen instructions to download and install iOS update.

> In reply to SRM @ 2014-04-04 16:55 from 9C9$ - click to readHi,

What you are referring to is called Memory effect (see, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memory_effect). This affected older types of batteries (NiCd and NiMH). Most devices today use Li ion batteries. These don't exhibit this effect much. So, I agree with you that we should routinely charge the battery fully to complete one cycle. But the point I am trying to make is that it will not hurt much if you occasionally need to quickly partially charge the device.
Apple devices use advanced Lithium-ion polymer batteries which have stunning endurance and long-life properties.

> In reply to harsha @ 2014-04-04 19:54 from t}xP - click to readYes thats right. As far as possible avoid unplugging the charger from your phone during this time. You will definitely notice an increased battery back-up after a few complete recharge cycles.

> In reply to harsha @ 2014-04-03 14:57 from t}xP - click to readIf you refer to https://www.apple.com/in/batteries/, it says:
A charge cycle means using all the battery'’s power, but that doesn'’t necessarily mean a single charge. For instance, you could listen to your iPod for a few hours one day, using half its power, and then recharge it fully. If you did the same thing the next day, it would count as one charge cycle, not two, so you may take several days to complete a cycle.
