Apple iOS Rumors

The iPhone Duo has been in very high demand since pre-orders started last week, with shipping dates slipping all the way to January within hours. Now, a new report claims Apple has responded by raising its iPhone Duo shipment target by 44%.

According to supply chain sources, Foxconn and component makers have received instructions reflecting an increase from 9.7 million units to 14 million for the first 12 months of production.

Apple reportedly orders 44% more iPhone Duo units from its suppliers

For context, back in July, Nikkei Asia reported that Apple had asked its suppliers to make around 10 million foldable iPhones in 2026. Then in September, analyst Jeff Pu said that only 6 million units will be produced this year because of hinge production constraints.

That's the catch with the new target too. The actual output will depend on assembly progress, following earlier reports of manufacturing difficulties affecting assembly, displays, and hinges. So higher orders won't automatically translate to more phones in stores, although shipping dates have been pulled forward for many people who pre-ordered.

The source of this report forecasts that global foldable shipments will grow 25.7% in 2026 and 59.1% in 2027 (compared to 7.4% in 2025), with Apple's entry contributing to that expansion. The iPhone Duo goes on sale tomorrow, October 23, starting at $1,999 in the US, though Apple has warned of limited walk-in stock on launch day and has capped purchases at two per person.

And when Apple reduce the orders because they have met the demand, analysts would come out from the woodowrk saying how "weak" the demand is.

I cant think of an iPhone launch in the last 10+ years that isn't constrained by the suppliers not being able to physically make enough of the phones at launch date. The amount of iPhones sold at launch day weekend every year is more than any ot...
