this is a great phone!
it was my first... and i have it even now. (i don't use it =) )
just battery is bad, but all other things works great. =)

Had one in 1998 and was my first handset. worked really well and never suffered any crashes whatsoever. The replaceable cover was something new, even Nokia followed suit.

i hav one of these and i really want to use it [as i think all modern mobile phones are rubbish] problem is the dog chewed the battery charger. can i buy a standard ericsson charger for it?

This trick has only been reported working on PREPAID GSM CARDS and in some countries and with some software versions.
The prepaid GSM SIM CARD is a kind of "SIM card" which only has a certain amount of credit on it.
Here's the trick: Dial the number normally and press YES. While "connecting" is shown on the screen, the following procedure should be carried out:
Press CLR then 0 then # and then NO (twice) so as to switch OFF the phone. You can then still speak on the phone while it is switched off but the SIM card does not record your calls which will lead to FREE phone calls in some countries.. I hope!!

Hi can someone tell me how to use the GA 628
when switch on I read the dispaly TEMPERED!
afterwards can do nothing with the handphone, had read the manual but no comments on that PLEASE HELP bye

Excellent phone from the time, seemed impossible to break, lasted forever. The interchangeable keypad plates were pretty fun too.

Awsome! I didn't know there are so many people who had this old thing as their first phone as well! I had this phone in 1999, before I started my last year in high school. It still works like new, although the battery wouldn't last more than 2 hours now. But I wouldn't let go of this baby... I now use a SE k610i, after my Nokia 3530, Nokia 3660, SE z600, Nokia 8250, Nokia 3310, and Nokia 5110. I'm in love with Ericsson / Sony Ericsson phones... So I always return to that brand.

I agree with all of you. This was my fist callphone, and it was great. I dropped it several times and than it just died, but still it was my first love in hi-tech.

i got one from a car boot the other day in the box with all the manuals, spare coloured panels and arial rings, warranty information. i plugged it in and charged it up put a sim card in and it worked like others it was one of the first phones i had. it cost me £3 bargain

CLASSIC!!! Oldies but Goldies! I buy one from some gipsies, without accu, for 0,5 euro, and its sealed where is the screw to dismount. I put an old accu and its perfectly work, including romanian language!! This was my first phone, for about 1 year, in 1997-98-99? now will be my second phone near my SE k75i!!!

it seems that this phone is the 1st phone that we 1st owned. same as me,those day in 1997 when i 1st used this phone,it was wonderful! since then i hv change so many phone(all updated one!) but i can still remember this phone & how it makes me feel during those old days....feeling like crying

This was the first mobile i got when i was 15. This was the best phone i have ever had and believe me i have had quite a few!
I currently have an N70 and a Chocolate lg and would give up both for the simplicity and durabilty of a ga628!
Why dont they make phones like this any more!
