No, you cannot drive you car with your mobile yet. But you can certainly enjoy some of the features carmakers are bringing, for the 15th Annual World Congress On Intelligent Transport Systems, that took place in New York last week. This time, the efforts were not put on engineering but on IT.

The research on the ground have been such, that a curious question arise: Which ones are smarter, drivers or vehicles?

In the case of Toyota, a tool is developed to detect speed and surrounding obstacles so, in case of an accident, the car can anticipate and suggest the driver to slow down. If he rejects the suggestion, the car would push the brake and slow down the speed.

Other companies, in eco-friendly initiatives, develop systems that detect the pressure on gas to recommend a speed and a rmp to the driver, so he uses the least amount of gas.

Other improvements are cameras, not only for the back of the car but for the whole 360° scope, and what stole most of the show, a "head sensor" that detecs the placement of the head of the driver and accordingly takes control of the car. If the head is brought forth down, or if the man turns his neck, the car will tell and, ideally, avoid an accident.

What about the other drivers?
This technology could really help and contribute to lessen vehicular accidents.
