According to a new rumor from Samsung's home country of South Korea, the Galaxy S27 series devices will be at least KRW 130,000 (about $95) more expensive than their predecessors in the country - but that rate of increase will only apply to the base model.
The more expensive storage tiers will get a bigger jump compared to what we've seen for the Galaxy S26 devices. So, for example, the Galaxy S26 Ultra started at $1,299 when it launched. That got you 256GB of storage, but if you wanted 512GB, you had to pay $1,499. With the S27 Ultra, the base model might start at $1,399, and the 512GB device could be $1,549 or even more. And so on for each subsequent storage jump.

Considering all of this, the 1TB S27 Ultra may very well approach the $2,000 mark (the S26 Ultra launched at $1,799 for that tier). Of course, the usual caveats apply. First, this is an unconfirmed rumor. Second, it's specifically talking about the South Korean market. That doesn't automatically mean that the same logic won't apply elsewhere, but it is something worth keeping in mind nevertheless.
As for the reason for all of this, it is of course the ongoing chip shortage triggered by AI demand. Samsung is also expected to equip the top-tier version of at least the Galaxy S27 Ultra with LPDDR6 RAM, which is even more expensive than LPDDR5X.

It's funny to see people keep on mocking Sony for how "oVeRpRiCeD" their phones are, yet every brand eventually slowly rises up their prices. Also, as a former Samsung owner, it's an absolute breathe of fresh air switching to some...
