Hi,

I bought HP IPAQ hw6515a 6515 and it can charge only through USB by using the cradle. If I connect the AC power to the Cradle and have the USB disconnected, then it wont charge. The Batter is fine and the cradle is also tested ok as I have 3 of these. The problem confronts to the phone. Are there any fix to this? Please let me know.

Regards
Sinu Thomas Chacko.

Red light of death solution: leaving the ipaq on the cradle is not a good idea, as it drastically reduces the battery life. Charge while synchronising and then remove. I changed battery and was also faced with the red light. Seeing the ipaq tries to start up then switch off again, time and time again, showed the (new) battery was dead. So you need to charge it without the ipaq starting up. Simple: insert battery but don't put the cover on, then hook up to the charger. After some time, let's say an hour, put on the cover, do a soft reset and then hook up the charger again. tada!

I bought this phone about a year back and is the worst phone I have ever owned. It downed my money. It has poor sound quality and never works when you want it to. Reboots arbitrarily and never comes up for long. The keys are clumsy and not quite usable. Overall the phone has been a pain and unreliable - to even use some of the advanced features !

Drodough - I don't think you can use the T-Mobile service if u've bought the device for Cingular service. U just need to have the battery changed; or format the phone. I had the same problemwise and the technician told me that the principal is the same with a PC. if u've left the PC or phone so long without using it, u have to format the whole thing....

I paid $600 for this in 6-06 and never froze or anything. I never downloaded extra software, I just used microsoft word and media player though. However, I just moved and left it off the charger for about 8 months. When I put it back on the charger a red light would blink and the screen would turn on for 3 seconds and off for 6 seconds. And repeat this pattern 24/7. I administered a soft reset and a hard reset, but nothing worked. Neither would the phone connect to my computer to activesync via the usb port.

Please give me some advice.

I bought this phone on cingular service but will now try use this phone with T-mobile, is this even possible.

Greetings,

I own an ipaq hw6515e. I was looking for a battery and came across your message post. The device has very excellent features. But reliability seems to be 0. Since buying the device, I have been given 2 replacements. The first device did not recognise bsnl sim card, hp at Chennai tried to give me a refurbished device as second replacement. Since I refused to accept, I was given a “new” device.
Hp Chennai could not help me even in configuring the device. (The service engineer knows only to switch on and off and soft and hard reset the device. If that doesn’t work, he switches himself off as the device itself!) That took me quite a few days. The device worked well for a few months. I bought navigation software from mapasia. (Not that I needed a navigation map for Chennai. I just wanted to see how the GPS worked). All landmark buildings in the Chennai map have the “same” name! The roads are ok. As soon as you open the navigation software, it searches for a com port. I have not been able to find out about it. You also need a GPRS with unlimited download. The GPS software needs to refresh every two days.
Now the device keeps turning off, but the phone signal is working. That beats me. I really cant figure out how to use the phone if the device is not working!
I assume the battery is packing up. I looked up the hp site with the battery part no., and it is not there!!!!!!!
Since buying, this device has taken up a lot of my time just to get it working.
I hope you don’t have the same problems. I would really like to see one good working 6515.

How is the GSM reliability? I own an iPAQ 6340 and the GSM keeps hanging, it works for 2, sometimes even 5 hours okay after that it "hangs" where I am unreachable but I see the connection all fine. The only way to tell is to try making a call. Disabling/enabling the GSM module does not help, I have to soft-reset. I called HP they say it's a problem of WM 2003.

Can anyone shed some light on this issue? I want this as my mobile phone and reliability is my #1 issue. Thank you.

P.S. the.me, could you please post your email or drop me a note, you sound like someone with a lot of experience, I have some questions... thanks

Still using this model for 2+ years in and out, with 'breaks' when i tried other PPCs, but usually after few days i always come back to my old trusty 6515 LOL
Yes, I have voted higher on TYTN once, but after a month (the longest 'break' in past 2 years when i used other PPC) I simply found myself in need of MAP and directions, and thats when I laid off TYTN and used 6515 and its GPS again ;)
It is not perfect and it has its flaws too (but so did all other PPCs I had, and I had 13 models already). However the size is as big as I can agree upon, and keyboard is as small as I can accept. Well balanced.
I had (still have - I dont return toys ;) ) 6945 model with WM5. Big disappointment compared to 6515 - mainly for the storage. On 6515 I used to carry 4GB miniSD and 4GB SD cards = total of 8GB storage (now i have 8gb SD card instead of 4gb, and yes it is SDHC type - just reformat it in FAT32 on PC and its back to being normal SD ;) and yes this ipaq see it and reads/writes to it all the way to the end). So thats 12 GB of storage. Cant do it on 69xx models since they have only single miniSD slot, and those cards still come in 4GB size max unfortunately.

Hello everybody,
I bought this HP iPAQ 6515e 2 years back. I have been having a lot of problems with it. Some of those have been already mentioned by others in this forum. Most prominently my phone keeps dropping calls and I have to frequently make calls again and again. I have verified and concluded that it is not a network problem. Also the battery life is extremely poor and the phone keeps restarting on its own. The phone also cannot catch the network well. I complained to HP about the same and after due verification the gave me a brand new piece as my phone was still in warranty. However the replacement is no better anyways. It has all the problems that I mentioned above and now that the phone is out of warranty I'm finding it difficulty getting spares. I'm desperately looking for a replacement battery and battery cover.
Can anybody help me get these?
also I would be very happy to hear from people who had these problems and have solutions for the same.
Thanks in advance
Sam
