I think this unit is not bad even with very critical observation.
The size is pretty much given by the 5˝screen.
16mm thickness is not bad today when SE (Sony) sells regular plain phones with this or similar thickness and people stupid enough to buy them. The battery also limits the size - remember 5˝sucks power!
OS ok Thank God it is not VISTA!
What I would like to see?
- yes, 3.5mm jack
- GPS nice but SIRF III is a must for accuracy
- get it down to 13mm thickness
- 5MB camera with VGA video up to 100fps
- USB 2.0 or better if not already
- FM radio (and why not AM also?)
That is all.
TOTALLY doable!!!!!
If you think 5˝too big - that is understandable - see Iphone or others. Do not try to change this one. Nice to have a 5˝ on the market as well.

Yes, very good...but....4:3 screen ? What were you thinking ?!?!?! Which market research made you choose this ?
At least 16:9 or 2:1 and I'm buying it. Everything else is great.

This phone could be the ultimate with the following modifications -
1) Reduce the screen size from 5' to 4' and accordingly reduce the overall width/length proportionately, 2) Instead of angular sides (for use with the snap on key board) which somehow irritate my aesthetic and symetry sensibilities, it have a laptop like bolted on key board and book style open/close mechanism or could be a smaller version of HTC-shift 3) Include FM radio, 4) Include provision for a 3.5 mm jack

HTC, you are sooooo close to perfection. I'd be more than willing to carry it around if there was a place to insert a BT ear piece. I'm tired of carrying a phone AND a PDA and two chargers and and and and....

Oh yeah, I figure the price won't be much different than the x7501 when it debuted, around $1200. The htc shift is listed for about $1700, and advantage x7501 for about $700 (with service contract), or $900 (without). I believe these are the current prices on this site. www.mobileplanet.com

Can't you people see? This is the ultimate laptop, pocket pc, cellphone, mp3 player, psp, gameboy, scientific calculator, pen & notepad ( I think you see where I'm going), REPLACEMENT. All you need is the advantage x7510 (with the proper service plan) and a desktop pc. That's it. If you have ever enoyed a large VGA screen, you will always have this feature (kind of like a dishwasher). For me features mean everything, I can deal with the size. Too big for a pocket? So what, carry it on your hip. Why should we complain that a device this powerful crowds our pocket??? If all you want is phone, e-mail, calender, and maybe a grocery list, then this device isn't for you. But for the power user who appreciates and uses the features, well I don't need to tell you anything, do I?

The phone weighs 375 grams. Its a beast alright, but i doubt its gonna do a lot of good if u dont always carry some sort of a bag (suitcase) , or a jacket with enormous pockets.
The Xperia X1 has a weaker processor , smaller screen, but its much more portable . Also it has a 3.5mm jack. (for music fans)
( the 16 Gb isn't a big deal, memmory cards will be sufficient)
All due respect to HTC , their genuises , but i'd wish if the phone becomes smaller in dimensions and lighter if it were to achieve any sort of mass market success. Also i'd like to commend them for their smart move to collaborate with SE and Microsoft to take windows mobile to its rightful position in the mobile software market.
