Display

The HTC Desire 700's screen has qHD resolution (540 x 960px), which at a diagonal of 5 inches, works out to a pixel density of around 220 ppi. Suffice to say, its not the sharpest around.

That aside, the Desire 700 screen has good colors and the viewing angles are well above average for a LCD panel.

Here's the matrix of the display under a microscope.

Looking at the numbers in our dedicated test, the Desire 700 dual SIM has good contrast levels and impressive brightness. What's not quite up to par is the depth of blacks, which gets worse the higher the brightness.

Display test 50% brightness 100% brightness
Black, cd/m2 White, cd/m2 Contrast ratio Black, cd/m2 White, cd/m2 Contrast ratio

HTC One 0.13 205 1580 0.42 647 1541
Samsung Galaxy S4 0 201 0 404
Apple iPhone 5s 0.14 163 1145 0.49 596 1219

The sunlight legibility test shows how much the screen contrast ratio deteriorates under direct sunlight. The Desire 700 dual sim managed a good result, albeit far from the best out there. It will remain legible even in the strongest sunlight.

Battery life

The HTC Desire 700 managed to both surprise and disappoint in our battery test. The 2100mAh unit got a rating of 52 hours. That's the expected time between charges if you do an hour of calling, an hour of web browsing and an hour of video watching a day (counting the stand-by battery drain as well). For this test we had both SIM slots occupied with active SIM cards.

With outstanding call times and good enough browsing, it was the video playback test where the Desire 700's battery failed to impress. More on the breakdown here.
