I have sent this Freestyle back four times and each phone does the same thing.... Oops! Anyway, I have taped a short, flattened straw to the right side of the battery to see if the looseness is the problem. The battery will probably never come out ever again, but at least I don't hear it sliding backing and forth now. I was wondering if this fixed Anonymous's problem???? Also, any luck getting HTC to replace the Freestyle with a DIFFERENT KIND OF PHONE??????

> In reply to TechGuy21 @ 2012-05-27 19:02 from 7xnS - click to readA new battery and a factory reset do nothing to stop it from randomly shutting off to the point that you need to remove the battery and reinstall it. The problem looks to be a design flaw in how the battery is placed in the compartment which allows for too much movement between battery and connectors. The reset did help on the random freeze out but not sure for how long as its only been a day or two since that has happened. Also they sent me a replacement phone which was worse than my phone. I am sending it back and getting a different phone. HTC lied to me and said this is the first they had heard about this problem. Typical corporation mentality, if we ignore it and act dumb nobody will be the wiser.

I got this phone after my trusty 5yr old flip phone died on me. Newer is not better, and touch screen will never beat the reliable button. Yes this phone sucks....the predictive texting causes me to have to spell check every text now, not responding to touch when I want it to, and where did the traditional Notepad go. I need a good ol fashioned PHONE, I think this piece of equipment confuses itself.

THINGS THAT MAY HELP YOUR HTC FREESTYLE:
1.) Buy an SD Card to store your music and extra files to. It can help save room on your phone.
2.) DO NOT use a screen protector. It really messes with the touchscreen and causes a lot of lag. If you do use one, change to a new one like continuously.
3.) Save Phone contacts to SIM card. Not the phone.
4.) Delete messages when it starts to get full and make sure you remember to delete the drafts as well then go to the trash to clear the deleted messages.
5.) Turn the brightness low.
6.) Make sure the phone is updated to the latest version.
(This is all the advice I can give anyone. This phone is extremely frustrating, and I know the anger you all go through. I just hope these tips can help.)

I was so excited when I got this phone because it looks like a smartphone without having to have a data plan. However, after two days it began shutting off at random times. You cannot turn it back on without removing the battery, which is time consuming process. If the phone was not turning off, then I was getting an "oops, system error occurred. restarting." message. Once the sound also completely shut off and wouldn't turn back on until I turned off/on the phone. I was constantly terrified the phone was going to shut off and I would miss my alarm in the morning or an important phone call. I loved this phone but with the constant problems/unreliability it just wasn't worth it. I ended up switching to a more basic phone that has much better reliability. The final straw was when the phone froze on the HTC lock screen and I could not get it to do a thing. VERY disappointed and would not recommend this phone to my worst enemy!!!

This phone is horrible! It always restarts with the very famous "OOps..." It is a horrible texting machine and I always get so mad whenever it screws up when I am composing a text and another one comes in, and it shuts of the noise, or shuts off completely! This phone is also the heaviest phone i've had, but I got used to it within a few days. I have hated this phone within the few days after I got it. I can't change my phone yet, because it is on a 2 year contract, which i hate! I can not stand this phone at all!!! My request is to have a full keyboard, instead of touch screen, because after this phone, I don't think I will be able to stand touch screen texting cell phones!!! This is the worst phone, EVER!!!

In Windows it will show up as a new drive with a letter, like "Removable Disk (E)".

We bought this phone for my wife and the first one was a pretty good phone (we had it replaced recently because the micro-usb port broke). The replacements have had issues with shutoff and overheating. I'm trying the suggestion on this thread about wedging the battery tightly side-to-side. Here are some other tips for those of you having other issues:
Duplicate texts, freezing, lagging:
Try installing the latest firmware update (2.18.502.0) from HTC (make sure to install HTC Sync first and connect your phone so it's recognized): http://www.htc.com/us/support/...ware-updates
This will reset your phone, so make sure you've backed everything up (I don't know a way to back up texts, sorry).
Copying photos and videos:
Install HTC Sync, then connect your phone via usb to a computer, then choose either HTC Sync or Disk Drive for the connection type on the phone. It should show up in your list of drives and you can copy the files or use a program like Picasa to import them to the computer.
If you're getting the "oops" error a lot, check your microSD card for errors, try reformatting it (you can copy contents to a computer first), or try a different card.
Of course, you can try factory reset too if none of these things help. We've had to exchange it twice since the first one because of shutdown issues. AT&T won't let us trade for a different phone, so we're stuck trying and retrying to get one that works right. They usually don't give you a new battery when they swap your phone, so you might give that a shot. We're going to try a new battery next.

I got my first Freestyle in February 2012.
Within the first week, I would get the "Oops..." messages and it would randomly turn off. I went to the AT&T device repair center on May 11, 2012 because my phone had died and would not turn on. I had charged it all night. They replaced my phone with one of the same model. Within hours, I was faced with the same issues. I plan on going back to the repair center tomorrow (since today is Sunday) and demand a different model phone. I didn't pay for this one, and I know there are plenty of other "free" phones. They said that there was a known problem with the power button, and the batter. For starters, if it's a known problem, why don't you warn others?
Frankly, I find this to be absurd. I'll let you know what happens after tomorrow.

Dont buy this phone. I was sent this phone by AT&T three weeks ago as an insurance replacement for my old phone. All that has been decibed in this forum is true. You can not archive text messages or save pictures and video. HTC has software but even there software doesn't allow you. Excluding touch phone functionality this is a HORRIBLE phone.

this phone is a horrible phone. It has way to many problems that seem to get worse and worse. untill they fix the phones software and stuff i recommending not to get one unless the place that you can get one has high quality version. my phone has broke once, got it repaired, it broke again, got a new phone *Same brand and all that.* broke soon after that, and now the screen isn't working. the phone gets multible text messages from the same person and it lags and freezes a lot. it sometimes flips out and when you try to press the unlock button it will show the unlock screen then back to a black screen and the back to the unlock screen...
