Liverpool, 12 Feb 2010thank u Anthony,i did everything u said, the call history works good but the calender icon just... morewhat you mean? what do you want it to do?
Morgan, 11 Feb 2010Im looking at buying a HD2 in the near future and was just wanting to read up on what you can/... moreWhat is ROM and Cooked ROM...
Fist think you should know is the word “ROM” has a double meaning.
I hope i can explain this without confusing you more.
Here goes...
Think of the word “CD” most know it as a media format e.g. CD,DVD,BlueRay but it also has a double meaning. “CD” stands for Compact Disc which CD,DVD,BlueRay all are.... they are all Compact Disc of different formats, so technically you can call them all CD’s .
That brings me now to the word ROM...
This phone has two types of internal memory hardware, RAM & ROM
RAM is temporary memory that programs use when communicating with the CPU, video chip, sound chip and so on. ROM is long term memory where data is stored.. like a hard drive of CDrw for your PC
Long ago when you bought a PC you got a CD that had the OS and drivers on it for when you wanted to put your PC back to factory settings.
Now that same info is just stored as an “image” on a partition of your hard drive. That software “image” is also called a ROM
So on this phone the win mo OS, Sense UI, hardware drivers and a few more things, are kept in an “image” called a ROM in a portion of the storage memory, also called the ROM.
When people talk about HTC ROM and COOKED ROM it’s the software ROM they are talking about.
But when you want to get that software ROM (may it be from HTC or not, authorised or not) onto the right area of the Hardware ROM. You use a process called flashing your ROM (which formats the hardware ROM and then puts the {new/old/authorised or not} software ROM in the correct hidden area of the Hardware ROM). The software ROM has the flashing Utility built right into it. So you just run that Software ROM from your PC like a program and it does the rest for you, (once your phone is connected in sync mode). So you don’t have to worry about breaking your phone.
Once that software ROM is on the phone, it is used to install the OS, UI, Drivers, and more.
JAIL BREAKING...
Flashing a rom is not the equivalent to jail breaking and iphone. It’s more like updating your un-tampered iphone with the use of itunes.
Most people have to jail break the iPhone because it is SIM locked but only a very small % of HD2’s are SIM locked. So most users of this phone are free to use as many different GSM SIM’s in there phone as they like, without having to tamper with the phone in anyway. And all users {SIM locked or not} are free to put on 3rd party software... so it’s not like jail breaking at all.
What people call an “official ROM” is the group of software put together in the “image” by HTC.
What people call a “cooked ROM” is the group of software put together in the “image” by an independent programmer.
Official software ROM’s are digital signed by HTC and that is where things get kind of complicated.
There is a program know as the “SPL” that is hidden in a special part of the Hardware ROM. Its main function is to look at the Digital signature of an update software ROM and see if it is a match with the software ROM you already have on the phone. If it is a match it will let you do the update, if it’s not a match, the update will be denied.
Cooked ROM’s have no digital signature, so it will never get pass the SPL the normal way. That is where SSPL and HSPL come in to play.
SoftSPL and HardSPL.......
SoftSPL is a program design to make the SPL on the hardware ROM not do the signature check just long enough for you to put on a Software ROM that has a different signature to the Software ROM on your phone or no signature at all.
HardSPL is a program design to replace the SPL on the hardware ROM with one that never does a signature check when you are doing a software ROM update. So any Software ROM will install (official or not.)
This is by far the best way i think i ever explained this and probably every will, so i hope you understand.

Do you want me to send the editor i used by email?
Or if you can use the program you got let’s try one.
I’m taking the info right from his site and breaking it down for you. Just go to his site to get the rest if you were successful with this one.
ShowCallHistory
Step 1. Open the reg edit program the interface should look like a file explorer. (if not you need the one I’m using)
Step 2. Tap on the “+” next to the words “HKEY_CURRENT_USER” to expand
Step 3. Tap on the “+” next to the words “Software” to expand
Step 4. Tap on the “+” next to the words “HTC” to expand
Step 5. Tap on the word “Manila” to select it. Then tap on the word again to show the files in the folder. (in the preview window below.)
Step 6. Find the file- CoOkie.ShowCallH... and tap on it.
Step 7. Change the Value data: from 0 to 1 then tap the grey ok key
Step 8. Close the reg-editor and restart the phone.
See if the call history shows on the home page.

It would freeze after install (HTC screen) and wouldn't load. Then I tried Miri ROM v3.2 and that was the same as v4, it froze on HTC screen. Now I'm trying Dutys new ROM v80 I think. So far so good. It loaded up fine. The only problem I see so far is that Miri ROM gave you more RAM to work with. Dutys ROM did unlock the RAM to 576, but you only have 119MB free for apps. The Miri ROM gave you more RAM to work with..... Will post later how Dutys' ROM is working........

I gave more than one link one goes to a next web page.
The names i gave with dates are on that next page among other things.
You have to find them.
Download them.
Copy them to the phone.
Then click on them from the phone and they will install them self.
The reg-edits on cooky site are in a window. With parts/strings and you have to use a reg-editer program to find those parts/strings on your phone registry and make the change he sad to make manually.
I gave the link to a registry-editor program.
If you still need help i will have to walk through it with you one at a time and not try to cover all at the same time.
