The phone does not need 3G capability simply bcoz the phone has wimax capability. I actually do not think the smart consumer will be buying this phone now and if they do, they will be buying it as an investment waiting to be fully used once Wimax service is fully applied to their location. (Im in NY and the only place with wimax now is baltimore and Wash. DC). So again no 3G required if the consumer will use wimax otherwise HTC offers plenty other phones just as nice for 3G fanatics.

all htc phones are nice but the big problem in them is most of them have 3.2 or 2 mega pixel cameras which sucks

I see you aren't a very well read person and your Intel leaves much to be desired. 4G actually exists. Vodafone Malta currently offers it's fixed internet service to homes via WiMax. They give you a box which connects to their infrastructure via 4G (no telephones/coax cable here) and you have an awesome internet service reaching lovely speeds. VM currently does not offer WiMaX to it's cellular network but it probably will in the future.

Please HTC,

Port this thing to 2G/3G, get the specs more in line with the current/next gen of handsets, and release it as soon as possible.

This is the only "bulky" mobile I would consider buying. The size ratios of screen to casing are perfect. No ugly rounded corners, beautifully sloped sides, and even nice call button design. Would be nice if they scaled the overall size back a little bit to make it more pocket friendly, but I won't complain as long as it is made available to a wider audience.

Hopefully the demand for this design is recognized.

3G/3.5G - WCDMA (HSDPA/HSPA+)
4G LTE/WiMAX

WCDMA is a technology that evolved out of GSM, but is not backwards compatible with GSM. You need the two technologies built into your device to be able to switch between GSM and WCDMA.
So in order to have a device switching between 4G and 3G you need both technologies available in a device, especially when WiMax is used for 4G. I'm uncertain how backwards compatible LTE will be with WCDMA, but from what I've read it is not at this stage.

The "Generation" naming convention is not indicating how technologies are related, but rather the performance (speeds) and properties of such technologies.

2G and 3G can also be used for PHS and CDMA networks, which again are completely different technology to GSM.
