Can anyone please explain me the concept of the 4MP ultrapixel camera ? I was watching the unveiling event live, but they could have thrown a bit more light on the new camera concept. TIA.

AnonD-18125, 20 Feb 2013Xperia Z looks cheap and ugly in front of HTC One :) I agree with you man. This looks fantastic, it's one of the coolest looking phones. I hope HTC will sell a lot of One. :) They should release it ASAP because Samsung is going to launch their flagship phone in April.
Anonymous, 20 Feb 20132300 mah battery without baterry saving software -___- and the design is disapointingFor me and for many people the design of the One is fantastic and it's made of good materials! HTC did a great job this time, and if the battery would be 2500 mAh, it would be even cooler.
hats off to hTC for their incredible inovation...hTC Sense is unbeatable..
Lovely blink feed home screen
this phone has nothing special. the design is a copy of BB Z10. the specs are almost the same as XZ and the camera is kinda ridiculous. look at the samples at PA and you'll find them just a piece of crap. the aluminum body is not durable and it becomes more obvious when we look at IP5. the screen is 4.7" but the size of it is the same as XZ. the battery is not powerful and there is no micro SD slot the glass is Gorilla which is weaker than the glass used in XZ. the main advantage of it is its SLCD screen.
final word: Xperia Z all the way :D
The handset luks nice imo.i like the idea of having front facing stereo speakers.
But i didn't like the fact that htc have ditched the trio of capacitive keys with the htc logo coming in the middle of the two capacitive buttons.it would've been better had they kept it the traditional way.
Still the handset luks promising.luking forward to it's launch.
Cam Tech, 20 Feb 2013HTC One all GOOD but should have 5.5" with 400ppi screen resolution instead of 4.7". ARE YOU CRAZY!? no it doesnt. It doesnt even need a 4.7inch screen. why has the mobile world become obsessed with ludicrous sized phone screens.
great design and specs, can say monster in smartphone market, both in specs and design
EM_AYCH007, 20 Feb 2013Noways!! the Xperia Z is much much better nope, the htc one just kick the xperia in te butt.
just amazing !!
No removable battery and SD card slot = no sale to me.
Rather than coming up with their own innovative design and extending the unique features of the Android platform HTC has lost their plot now and is trying to make an iPhone clone lately. No wonder why their sales declined rapidly.
HTC One all GOOD but should have 5.5" with 400ppi screen resolution instead of 4.7".
What is the UltraPixel?
HTC have gone ahead and used the term “UltraPixel” in their new
announcement. The “UltraPixel” simply means that the sensor has
large photosites, in turn meaning there are large pixels. Simply said,
the HTC UltraPixel camera has big pixels, which let in about 300%
more light than normal sensors. This is as per the marketing terms
and the press release. Lets see what it actually means.
Usually, sensors in smartphones are really small. These sensors,
most of the times packing a total of 8 megapixels, have pixels
packed in a tiny frame, making the sensor incapable of delivering
higher quality images. Usually, the smartphone camera sensors have
a pixel size of 1.4 microns(1/1000 of an mm). For example, the
Nokia 808 PureView, with a total of 41 MegaPixels packed into a
1/1.2″ sensor has a pixel size of 1.4 microns, and the yesteryear
Nokia N8, has a pixel size of 1.75 microns with a 12 megapixel
1/1.83″ sensor.
What HTC has done is, put large pixels on a 4 megapixel 1/3″
sensor. So, with the sensor being large, and the megapixel count
being low, the pixel size of 2.0 microns is achieved. The advantages
of large photosites(or pixels) is more absorption of light, hence
improving the low light performance. Also, due to the presence of
large pixels, the data that is absorbed is of higher quality, giving you
extremely clear pictures in most lighting conditions. Consider this
akin to a 5 MP oversampled photo from the Nokia 808 PureView,
which, even at 100% resolution, looks crystal clear without noise or
artefacts.
But we can judge the quality of the pics only through personal
experience, so hang on until we get our hands on the HTC One. With
that said, lets move on to the other features of the camera.
Looks like the Z10....
for all these who defend HTC's camera even after seeing the samples,
http://www.imaging-resource.com/news/2013/02/20/htc-one-smartphone-debuts-uprated-camera-boldly-favors-sensitivity-over-res
"HTC brands its chip as an "UltraPixel sensor", a term that seems to suggest either far greater resolution, or some major breakthrough in pixel design. The truth is rather more prosaic -- along with the modest increase in sensor size, HTC has simply slashed resolution in half to allow a greater photodiode size."...
