What you say is spot on. The M9's screen is a wash. It is one of the worst displays from HTC. The performance of the SD 810 is also going to be a problem, as overheating/throttling will hinder the device.
HTC has really screwed up with the M9, and it will sit on many store shelves collecting dust because of it. Sending it back and avoiding the headache is very smart.
This will probably go down as HTC's most regrettable mishap. Expect for the company to gracefully bow out of mobile competition in 2017/18. Sony will be first (as already announced), and HTC will follow soon after.
On the bright side, you'll possibly pick up the Galaxy S6, which has the best display, best performance, and best software suite. I guarantee that you'll never look back.

ooooh, the clock is in cursive now! thats boring and totally unnecessary.. Why would anybody buy this over the competition? buy an s6 or ip6 for christ sake
HTC cant be bothered to make an effort anymore. A sad state of affairs
I have been a fan of HTC phones for years (since the desire HD). I got my M9 on release day in the UK and I am so disappointed... I am actually sending it back.
I cannot find any advantage over the M8 in day to day use, and the phone seems to have taken a step back in 2 key areas; display and battery life.
I know they are using the same screen as they did with the M8, but put the two side by side and you can see that the colours on the M9 have been washed out. Having done some research, it seems that HTC have changed the colour temperatures and that the screen now has a 'poor' rating in this area. The depth of colour that is on my M8 is gone on the M9 - and it's very noticeable. Everyone that I have shown the two screens to agrees - the M8 was better!
The battery also seems to drain a lot quicker on the M9... I haven't used it for long so this may be something that gets better over time.
The camera also seems pretty ordinary and could use some stabilization software.
Sadly HTC have lost a customer on this occasion... I prefer my M8! My M9 is back in its box ready to be sent back. I am probably going to reluctantly give the S6 a go despite being a HTC man for years... The M9 doesn't cut it.

WRGTry a different SIM Card
Remove/forget the Wi-Fi connection, than connect to it again.
Try different Wi-Fi conncetion
Start the phone in safe mode * Press power button 2-3 sec, in phone option press and hold your finger on power off for 3 sec, then reboot in safe mode. To exit safe mode, reboot the phone as normal
Flagship smartphones like this one are way behind a pc in this respect. After speaking with HTC high level technical support, the M9 will not play music playlists or folders containing playlists that have been dragged into micro sd. It will only play one track at a time. No 3rd party app I can find will do it. VLC said they can't either but it is on their to do list. I have a micro sd with 64GB classical flac music. It would take me for ever to make playlists from the music app. "unsatisfactory".

Got mine today and really impressed with its all round performance. Great to hold and even better to look at. Had a Sony Experia Z on my previous contract and the M9 is absolutely streets ahead. Well done HTC it's a great phone.
ig88b1, 01 Apr 2015The heating issues were resolved by throttling the phone back to 1.6Ghz, same speeds as the M8. M8 has 2.3 GHZ. 4 cores. As i recall. Asia version has 2.5 Ghz.
