The HTC One S that will be launched in India is the inferior version with the S3 processor overclocked to 1.7Ghz along with the Adreno 220 GPU instead of the advanced and more power efficient Krait S4 processor with Adreno 225 GPU. The processor is the same as on the Sensation XE and has been overclocked by 200 MHz.The Sensation already has pathetic battery life. In the One S: Overclocking + Fixed battery translates to pathetic expected battery life and definite heating.
Not to mention that the main reason to buy an Android , rooting and installing a custom ROM will be difficult to do considering the rest of the world will be on different hardware as compared to South East Asia. This will severely limit the number of ROMs that will be available to interested 'rooters'.
HTC say that this hardware change is due to shortage in S4 processors and just like in 2010 they launched LCD versions of devices and priced them at international prices they're taking the third world countries with their tactics.
They haven't even issued a statement advising people of the differences in hardware while selling them in their home turf, Taiwan.

> In reply to Batty @ 2012-06-13 06:30 from PxhV - click to read1.5Ghz-1.7Ghz change means that HTC has noticed Indians getting pissed off at being taken for idiots and unwilling to pay premium prices for last years tech and is trying to say that when the shortage of the S4 processors is overcome they will ship the S4 version.This is just a gimmick though.
Like the AMOLED shortage in 2010, HTC never released AMOLED screens on their phones even after an entire year.I had the SLCD Desire for which i paid 28,000/-.
Even if the shortage is overcome in 3-4 months i sincerely doubt HTC gives two hoots about Indian(or better still 3rd world countries) customers and will give us the same tech that it provides the developed nations with.HTC screwed over its home, Taiwan with this trickery.

Something interesting here...

HTC updated the spec sheet with 1.5GHz~1.7GHz.

What does it mean?

The Processor Technology in S3 is 45nm and in S4 is 28nm(latest).
S3 heats up more than S4 and drains the battery more than S4.
S4 can compete with quad-core processors in the market;
HTC One S is better than One X and somewhat competes with Galaxy S3 and much better than iphone4S.

It is sad that international version of HTC One S comes with S4 and Asian version with S3.
I will get one from U.S or U.K.

1.7ghz is the s3 older dual core processor. Much heat. Takes more power. I dont think its worth spending so much money on older processor.

1.5ghz is the s4 newer Krait processor. Much efficient. Buy this one. Really bad that HTC is doing such a thing. why should we pay premium price for a older processor.
