I agree with everyone who has complained about the tiny phone keypad on the 9502
I wont be buying this phone because of it.
This product is a huge let down.
The keypad is for children to play with.
Well done i-mate!!!!!!!!!!!!
It took rocket science to design this phone keypad.

I was so waiting this phone but I have to say I am disapointed with it. Slow and sluggish. Keyboard is just way too small to really use properly without hitting the wrong keys. My phone is only about 2 1/2 months old and already the rear battery cover has the paint starting to come off it and I keep it in the pouch all the time only ever putting it down carefully at night to charge. The phone application crashes somehow as I can not hang up a call and have to wait for the other end to hang up first. Sometimes when anwwering it also hangs and the other caller can here me but not me hear them.
The display is wonderful though but only in dim or inside lighting. Outside it is a joke and you have to find shade to be able to read it.
GPS is OK but slow to aquire position when first switched on and the need to use the Wireless Manager is a bit of a pain. I wish all phone manufacturers would opt for the Sirf Star III chipset as this locks onto satellites very quickly.
I think honestly I will be selling this phone real soon as I am not happy with it. It hangs far too many times and having to do a reset at least 1 or 2 times a day is not so good.

I agree the phone touch keypad is a joke.
It is so small.
This phone would be close to perfect if not for this.
Fix it i-mate.

Cant work this out
Take the I-mate 9502 for example.
They, design a high quality phone choc-a-block with features, many which are very usefull.
Then would you know it!!
They stop short with that stupidly
small telephone touch keypad.
I would love to buy one,but not before I-mate fix the bloody thing!!

slow, difficult to read display in sunlight, keyboard to small, GPS laggy....
in general the Windows is a bit slow but still acceptable. In summer its difficult to read the display - unless you are in deep shadow. This is especially hindering when you try to take photos outdoors. The qwerty keyboard is _really_ small and best used with the fingernails of your thumbs. The GPS most of the time took 10 mins to start up (TomTom Navigator) - even under best conditions. Once started up it worked fine though. Some programs dont really close when you press the x button - so the windows media player keeps playing even if you try to close it. The 4 direction buttons on the front are sluggish. I experienced alot software crashes which forced a restart.
On the Plus-side: good fast connectivity, sharp display, all functions you can ask for, the sliding mechanism fells good.
Summary: overall good phone although not excellent. And too expensive

This model of I-Mate pocket PC is very very very bad. SLOW , CRUSHS , HANGS alot.

but the GPS + Garmin 4.30 is very very FAST and cool

the keybord is small and useless.

the VGA is COOL but the colour depth 64K is sucks.

the audio is nice the camera is very bad with 352X240 video record.

I will sell this garbeg and buy NOKIA N95 8GB
, the best phone that ever made. THANK YOU.

Hello All,

I will receive my 9502 in a couple of days... I'm so excited. I here a lot people on different forums comparing this phone to Nokia "N" series, come on this are two different platforms. Nokia is media first, I-mate is productivity first (my opinion). I have a Nokia e61i and Imate Jasjar I would not dare to compare or say one is better than the other because they are on two different platform(OS). I would like to see forums compare this phone to the htc 8925(tilt),imate jasjar, imate herald, htc diamond duo,htc 6800 and the vario then I would care about some of the reviews. I really don't care about watching movies on my phone that is want my zune is for. The market is flooded with devices that are designed for high schoolers and college freshman(media minded). I want more from a phone I-mate and HTC has given that to me of the last 3 years. If I was 5 years younger...21 then I would want a dumb down phone....since I am not I do not waste my time if it is not linux, windows, BB, or palm. Oh yeah I am selling my Nokia E61i...lol (it is not for me). Don't get me wrong I have had Samsung, Nokia, LG, and Motorola (still have E680i and A780-Linux base) and if you believe that there are some great non media phones out there please share. I am only sharing from my own personal experience.

this is a very nice device.
however!!, the one thing preventing me from buying another is the dreadfully small telephone touch keypad.
you need two hands to dial a number.
one hand to hold the phone, the other to hold the stylus.
not great if you need to input a number quickly.
come on i-mate, pls fix this.

> In reply to Liam @ 2008-06-15 15:34 from 2CxdSorry just noticed couple of typo's in previous post.

With SD in it reboots (after hard reset) WITHOUT Telstra rubbish. Vanilla Version, went to imate site to download the Telstra access settings.

WITH Calligrapher handwritten input much better than Microsofts Transcriber.

I have had my Imate 9502 (on Oz Telstra network) for about 3 months now, for the first month it was painfull
- Running slowly
- Need for constant resets
- Memory rapidly dissapearing

however I made the decision to hard reset it. What I found our is that if there is an SD card in it (which there was) when it rebooted it reset with all the Telstra rubbish that semi-locked the device to the Telstra portal (you had to switch the Telstra proxy off previously to use IE on other sites or use WiFi!).

Unbelievable difference, soft re-set once week now to recover memory leak (Windows problem)I have SPB Mobile Shell sitting over the top and I must admit this is one of the nicest phones I used in a long time. Still a few shortcomings.

- Battery life one day with moderate to heavy use.
- GPS great but needs external 12v to spare battery.
- Camera can be flaky
- 2Gb SD sucks!

The VGA out works suprisingly well and teamed with a bluetooth mouse and keyboard I have a fairly good mini notebook. Without Calligrapher works well for consistant written input.

Would like to see a few more peripherals for this phone like a docking station that also charges a spare battery, although I think third party peripheral manufacturers will focus more on the big sellers Ipones , Nokias etc.
