If you are stuck with GT550, Okay. Otherwise do not buy it. UC Browser Cloud Signed version for Java mobiles works Okay for browsing, but downloads are possible only through the native browser & you cant change the security settings as the options are simply not there. The phone memory is insuficient for higher versions.
I found that the OS is 'Nucleus OS'.
I have installed Albite Reader for Java, but cannot browse in it to the .epub books I copied to my phone. Maybe security issues and you cannot change the settings. Any solutions ?

Its ok. ive had this phone for a while, the touch screen is kinda hard to press onto and it presses the wrong thing all the time. the camera is alright, i havent had many phones and this is one of the better ones. i ran out of space pretty quick. the good news is that the messaging works great! its threaded nicley and its very easy to understand. some more sad news, there is no passcode lock so people can easliy get onto ur phone. other than that its a very usable phone and i would reccommed getting it for a short term time. its definitly not a long term cell phone. ive had mine for about 7 months and im thinking about getting a new one. it still works well but i dropped it and there is a black mark that wont go away. i wonder if that happens all the time. ohhhh ya and another thing if you drop it, it scratches up pretty easily so beware if your a clutz like me. and also, unless you drop this baby off the efiel tower, it wont shatter, ive dropped it probs a million times and it just is a little scratched. :) so yes i would reccommend it.

Okay! In response to my previous posting for all of us who have difficulties saving MP3 sound clips as ringtones (LG GT-550), I have discovered the answers on my own. Here they are: The persons who posted info that the files must be 300 KB / 30 seconds or smaller are absolutely correct, but it doesn't stop there. After several attempts at editing the same clip, the software settings for the output MUST have both the right sampling frequency applied to the proper bitrate. Imperative that the bit rate be at or below 64 Kbit - any higher, the phone may not recognize the file type. An attempt with an MP3 processed at 96 Kbit - my phone didn't like it. Also, if the sampling frequency is too low, again, the phone may not recognize the file type. This has been my problem all along. So, if any of you have the software, play with the OUTPUT settings for the encoder to obtain the right combination for the quality you want. Just keep the bit rate, frequency, duration (< 30 seconds), AND the size (

I'm not quite sure who is posting some of the replies concerning setting MP3 files as ringtones on the LG GT-550, but I think you should be a little less arrogant and a little more descript! I have an LG GT-550 thorough AT&T and have the exact same problem. I edited my own 12 second MP3 file, emailed it to my phone, but I cannot set it as a ringtone!! No options are available to do so!! I believe the problem is with the service provider, as I had the same problem with a nice phone from Tracfone. There is some proprietary coding that the phone looks for on the MP3's. If it doesn't see it - it won't give you the menu option to set it as a ringtone. Therefore, they force you to buy and download the MP3 ringtones from their website. Now, if you pompous folks can provide a constructive description on how to circumvent this issue, I (and the rest of us with the same problem) would heartily welcome it! Stop telling us that you did it and tell us all HOW you did it!!
