I just got the LG KG800 and think it is a great phone, however there is one thing that is bugging me. When I put my SIM card into the phone I already had 10 text messages on it. When I went to the text menu it showed it as I had 10 messages on the SIM. Now whenever I get send a text it shows up as being on the phone memory. Surely the SIM memory must be full before it goes to the phone? In the manual it says that messages can be moved, but I can't find a way of swapping between the memories! Can anyone help??

Thanks,

Tim

Stan - Thanks for taking the time to post your findings! My only comment would be that obviously no phone is perfect. Take the Motorola V3 for example, a stunning looking phone but had several little niggles like not being able to store more than one contact number per contact etc. At the end of the day we just have to think that the Chocolate phone is a one of a kind (just like the V3 in it's day) and LG should be applauded for bringing something truly unique to the market.

Tielman - In the PC Sync software you should see, in the Phonebook page for example, the word 'Phonebook' selected and next to this 'Outlook'. Click on Outlook and then on the 'Read' button and it should read the contacts you have in outlook and display them in this window. Select the contacts you wish to transfer and click on the right arrow shown at the very centre of the PC Sync application. This should transfer contacts from outlook to your phone. The same can be done with the Schedule and the Memo.

Ferry - yes the Korean version of the Chocolate phone had a memory card slot but the phone was thicker than what we have in the UK. Also, the Korean version didn't have Bluetooth which this one (thankfully!!) has. Yeah, it doesn't have loads of memory but I find that it's enough for what I do with it. You know, take some pictures, shoot some video, listen to the odd MP3 tune. I guess it's really down to taste. Thing is, if you really want to listen to music and stuff then I suggest getting a Video Ipod, much more suited to the job than any mobile phone out in the market.

Marco - battery so far has been excellent and I charge mine about every 3 days or so. The menu system is really easy to use, very intuitive and the touch keypad is very cool.

Great Phone - Love it, Got it on Friday last week and have not had a single problem with it, all works very well, there are a few software niggles but nothing major and have all been identified below.

Love the touch buttons and the screen is beautiful. Also ive not seen it covered elsewhere, it looked to me like the number keys arent backlit but they are, very light creamy light comes from them.

Great phone, but a real pain to sync! Best post award goes to Jeff, his post got me sync'd!!

More about PC Sync v. Mass Storage

Using the device for mass storage by plugging in the data cable will change the display to indicate that it connected to the computer.

---From Jeff-----
However, to PC Sync - modem mode needs to be activated first before connecting the cable. The display does not change or indicate by an icon that it is modem mode.
You will see LG USB as a Com Port option in the pc sync sofware (and this option is not available if modem is not activated first.)

RE Jeff's query:

>Is anyone else having trouble with adding
>photos from a pc? It adds files to the camera,
>but when I try to set them as wallpaper, it >doesn't seem to recognise the jpg's, and >saving them as gif's makes them too big.

My wife has just got this phone today and we immediately found that some photo's loaded from our PC, did *not* have the "set as wallpaper" option. As a result we were forced to RTBM and found that the manual claimed that the size limit for wallpaper images is 30K bytes. However, my wife's experimentation has shown that the limit is approx. 100K bytes.

I hope this info is of some assistance,

Marcus

I was really wanting this phone untill they revealed the European Specs for the KG800. The downgraded the screen resolution, downgraded the internal memory to 128 and removed the cardslot. What use us a mp3 chip with only 128mb. If they gonna save money on memory they might as well removed the stereo headphones and remote control. This definitly won't the hit as it could've been with the Korean specs. I wouldn't mind to pay premium price (NOKIA 8800 range) if they just left the specs like the Korean one.
A shame really. It could've been my dream phone. I was looking to maybe import a Korean version, but since the use CDMA instead of GSM that's a nono. I think LG needs better strategies and market understanding for the region before they release the their products in this region.

As you know this model has good face and seamless front conver. We don't use cam and high level feature rarely. So it is good for chic guy. I guess it is Must-have item.

Mike

You can't add your own message alerts but you can add your own ring tones.

Found more limitations with the phone's software.

T9 predictive text is not available for entering the name of contacts in the address book. After entering a full stop after a word, T9 doesn't capitalise the first letter of the next word. When using T9 or non-T9 entry of letters, you can't hold down a key after a delay to enter a number - you have to toggle through the various input options to get to numbers.

Contacts saved in the phone memory requires a 'Main Number' to be assigned to a Home, Mobile or Work category. It is not possible to edit a phone memory contact if you want to delete a main number and leave the other numbers; this is because clearing the main number removes the Save contact option and you can't also scroll down to the other telephone number of the contact.
Basically, you have to delete the contact from the address book and recreate it again without the number you that you wanted to delete.

There is an option to allocate speed dials to keys 2-9. If you have a phone memory contact with Home (as Main Number) and Mobile numbers - you cannot assign a speed dial to both numbers. Although, it appears you can do it, the software restricts the speed dial to the Main Number. (The user manual doesn't actually tell you this.)
