LG KU990 Viewty - user opinions and reviews

LG

guys im very interested in this phone, mainly coz its the only new decent phone 3 uk would offer me. my queries are in regards to the durability of the touchscreen and the batteries performance. also wanted to know if the texting is as comfy as any other phone or is it crap. Basically is it worth getting this fone or should i opt for last years nokia n95 or other sony ericcsons?

I am confused... there seem to be two extreme user reviews of this phone.. One side, it's bad (laggy, camera quality not good/no difference with lower MP camera/p) and the other side, it's excellent (great picture quality, no lag problems)

so I'm wondering, which one's a specific case and which one's general??? gsmarena, help!

@ Ben Henson

it seems like your phone is quite laggy...but others dont seem to be having such a problem. did u use a phone with a fast processor before? therefore you think the Viewty's processor is slow? or is this an issue for you other Viewty owners as well?

It says UMTS, GSM 900/1800 GSM 1900.
The phone is made of hard semi-matte plastic. But the back cover is all metal.

I received this phone on the O2 network on Wednesday this week (24/10/07) and have been waiting patiently for it for so long. I am now sending it back after 3 days as the novelty of the phone wore off extremely quickly to be left with the stark reality that this phone is crying out for a Smartphone OS, a decent processor and a realistic amount of RAM. Some of the features that this phone carries are very impressive (camera, photo/video viewing, UI). The lag on some of the more simple features (screen scrolling, for example) was oh-so-apparent after only these few days. Having only seen the Prada and not used it, I can only assume that these issues were/are present on this phone also. I have heard of the LG smartphone that is supposed to be on its way running Windows Mobile - this, I feel, would be a safer bet if you still want to use the LG.

I didn't get a chance to use the 120 FPS feature of the video recorder and the 5.1 MP still camera promises a lot, but at a regular viewing size (1024x768 on the PC), there was no real noticeable difference between this camera and that found on the Sony Ericsson K750i - that is nearly 3 years old now... The whole point of having a camera phone in my opinion is the convenience of point and shoot, without having to carry 2 devices around. This camera, whilst fairly impressive, doesn't cause much of a worry to a standalone digicam, unlike the SE K850i or the N95. Plus, the convenience of having a camera in your pocket at all times is somewhat flawed by the amount of time it takes to load the camera. By the time you have managed to get the thing to load and focus (mine was set at 3MP at this stage, trying to improve performance) the subject of your picture has moved on and is no longer interested.

The UI on this phone is extremely simple and user friendly, however, the lack of a decent processor and associated operating memory means this is more of a saving grace, rather than the spectacle this phone promised to be.
