Regarding the issue about dust under screen (which seems a major issue with this model), those who think they do not have it, please check properly under sunlight and with the backlight turned up (if set low). I too though I did not have it, until I checked carefully under sunlight.
Had to go to LG to get my headphones replaced as they were defective. Showed them the dust issue, and they told me they will replace some part. Wanted to see which part that was, but somehow that part got superceded by other issues that followed. The technician disassembled it (you have to open up a lot to get to the screen... its not a few mins job) in front of me, wiped the underside with some smooth cleaning cloth and assembled it back. By then the sun was down and I could not check. Next day when I checked, it was extremely annoying to see that the problem was made much worse. The amount of particulate matter under the screen was far greater than what was there before i took it to the service center. While the phone was opened, further dust settled in, along with fibers of the cleaning cloth, and all this is now nicely magnified when you see it in the sun.
The service center did not even have its AC on, and obviously that contributed to the additional fine dust/particulate matter settling on the screen.
So now the problem is much worse than before. Extremely annoyed with LG for screwing up an otherwise good fone with such a idiotic problem.
Those who think they can avoid the issue by leaving the dust in, think again, as it seems the amount of dust accumulating inside keeps growing. Perfect catch 22 situation!
Headphones were replaced in warranty. While the replacements at least work, unlike the original defective ones, the new ones are no great shakes either... esp. for voice calls. People on the other end complain that the voice clarity and loudness is much lower than when speaking directly thru phone; and at my end the other person's voice sounds very "unnatural". Anybody else noticed this?
gss, 11 May 2011hi, i owned this a week ago,its really exellent fone but i couldnt get it connected with my pc,,Hi Friend, First of all you have to enable some setting to connect with your computer. Ok, go to settings and then click 'SD card & phone storage'then tick 'Mass storage only'.Now you can connect your phone to you computer as a hard drive. Enjoy!!! :)

i also unistalled apps2sd which i suspect could be one of the reasons. do uninstall it of u have it.
use the phone's setting->manage application to move to sd card instead. also i removed task-killers which are not required on froyo.
hope this helps
Friends please help me
I'm using it past 5 months and it is an awesome phone, I was using the free 2gb memory card with it,
Last week I purchased a genuine 8gb memory card,
The card is alright but in a day I get soo many errors of memory card removed and/or I witness my phone restarting on its own or I so see my phone get hanged and then restart again..
I have seen the memory card in my computer and it appears genuine.
Please help me, I'm very worried with this problem.
I've owned this phone since december so this marks half a year spent with this phone. I originally chose this phone for two reasons. 1) I lost my iPhone and needed a new phone on a budget... and 2) to get a relatively cheap taste of what android had to offer.
What I liked about the phone:
Given the price I payed for it, I really got my money's worth.. It lags quite often but I don't mind. Drag and drop is beautifully simple for managing my files (the P500 can play .avi files with no problem). Its great not having to sync with itunes.
App wise, I miss some things.. I used the dictionary.com app a lot with the iPhone. the android dictionary.com app requires a connection unlike the iOS one which prevents me from using it most of the time. Everything else though works like a charm.
I have to add that I'm by no means a heavy user. On the contrary, since I've owned the phone for 6 months now, I believe that I'm at the point where I've filtered out all the "novelty" of most things and use only what I need. DoubleTwist for music, Audible for audiobooks, Messaging, Calls, Maps, Jorte for my calendar, and ClickTheCity (a local app for checking movie scheds and what not). This for me is "smartphone" and the P500 gets the job done in all these cases. I might mention now too that battery life is enough to get me through the day given the way I use my phone.
Highlights of the Android OS:
Widgets, whatever you need, right there.
Notification bar, I can't live without it anymore.
Multitasking, a little slow on the O1 but possible nonetheless and extremely useful.
Customizablility, don't like the launcher? change it. don't like the keyboard? change it. Music player? change it.
it's no iPhone. The screen feels plastic-y and touchscreen on an iPhone was a more enjoyable expreience. The stock keyboard is plain annoying. The small screen size didn't help at all to make typing any easier. (My fix? Smart Keyboard Trial/Pro. I have the keypad set to compact layout and it makes typing so much easier.)
My biggest problem with this phone (and apparently with all other android devices) was the absence of proxy settings. My school network requires proxy. This was a huge bummer for me as I'm in school most of the day. The fix for this? Rooting. Sure there's the fear of bricking your phone but for me, the process went by without a hitch and opens up your phone to a bunch of other things (custom ROMs, wireless tether, etc)
To wrap things up, this is really a great phone. If you just want to get a feel of the OS, I'd highly recommend it. Though I wish it was a little bit more powerful, I got what I payed for. If youre dead set on the OS, I'd recommend getting something more powerful. My next phone will definitely be an Android albeit on the higher end.
