Here is the complete review of the Micromax Q50(Black):
I've been using this phone for the last 10 days or so and have been very satisfied with what it has to offer at this price(Rs. 1650).
The box contains the phone, battery(950mAh), a 1.5m usb to micro-usb cable, a silicon back cover, a standard micro-usb charger, pc sync mini-cd, and other paper booklets.
Coming to the phone the first impression you get when you hold this phone is that it is a very slim device, but the build quality is excellent. The phone is made of glossy plastic which looks good but attracts dirt and the smudges are hard to clean and require a through rub with a damp cloth. Popping in the sim cards is a bit of a chore and the sim card slots are one above the other unlike side by side on most phones. The sim card slots have a tray like function made of cheap metal which can twist and break if not handled with care. Powering on the phone you get a typical Micromax user interface which uses a Mediatek chipboard and a proprietary OS.
The trackpad of this phone is sensitive to the slightest of touch and I was comfortable when I set it on Level 2. The UI is responsive but requires quite a number of clicks to get the desired job done.
Java apps which are less than 500Kb in size run nicely but anything more than that causes the app to crash.
Music Playback is pretty decent on the bundled headphones and similar to what you get on most Nokia devices, albeit a bit loud . The Music Player has got 5 equalizer settings and produce different sounds on each setting. I was pretty much content with the music but audiophiles may want to invest in a good pair of earphones to get that ultimate quality. The speakers of this phone are just mind-blowing and produce very loud and distinct audio which does not burst or crackle even if you pump up the volume to the full. I wish every phone manufacturer could add similar loudspeakers on their devices.
Video playback is also good and it runs videos encoded in .3Gp or .mp4 with a resolution of 320*240. The viewing angles are bad but the brightness and contrast are pretty much ok for that occasional video or two.
The battery is rated for 3hours of continuous talk and deliver those numbers. Moderate users can easily get 2 days before they need to plug in the device to the charger. Call quality on the earpiece is loud and clear and the mouthpiece also works nicely.
This phone can be used as a modem to connect to the internet by using the pc sync software. The software provided on the cd does not have APNs for popular networks but one can download this PC Sync software from the official website. The web browsing speeds are good but what disappointed me was the pre-installed Opera Mini(4.2) browser. This phone cannot handle complex web pages and comes in handy only to browse basic webpages that are mobile optimized.
I would like to conclude this long and exhaustive review by saying that if one wants a QWERTY handset on a shoestring budget, then this phone would be the best choice under Rs.2000
If anybody has any other queries regarding any features I would be glad to help. Thanks.
P.S.- The phone has an in-built memory of 25Mb and expandable up to 16Gb.

most of the java apps doesnt work on this phone
the screen display is not good, the headsets produce quite good sounds, the net browsing is fast but only in opera mini,u can view not only wap sites but also other sites, the default browser is of no use..

The phone is a big letdown. Let me explain why it is so.
1. The design of the phone is really bad and the keypad is flush with little spacing in between. The choice of materials is glossy plastic which is a fingerprint magnet and smudges are hard to clean.
2. The quality of the screen is too bad and the color representation is horrible.
3. The OS sucks and requires too many clicks to get the job done.
4. The sim card slot and the micro SD slot is flimsy, easily susceptible to damage and requires great amount of care to put the sims in place.
5. The pc sync cd is of no use at all and only a gimmick.
6. The camera is described as a 2Mp and takes pictures which are no better than a VGA camera.
7. The bluetooth also does not pair with my Sony Ericsson mobile phone.
8. The bundled headset is of decent quality but pump up the volume and the sound starts to crackle.
9. A very old iteration of Opera Mini (4.2) is installed which is good only for wap pages. Though it can be upgraded to version 6.5 but doing so will freeze the application itself.
The phone is not a total letdown and has got a good battery life, the trackpad works flawlessly and is very sensitive, the sound quality through the speakers is very loud and does not crackle even if played at the highest volume.
One can only do the most basic tasks on this phone and there is just no room for the fancy stuff. This is where the international companies like Samsung and Sony differ from our domestic companies like MMX , Lava or Karbonn to name a few. With so many downers I was really disappointed with this phone and feel cheated.

Got this phone today from Letsbuy.com for 1575/-. As for the phone it is a pretty good handset with all the basic set of features. The phone is very slim and light and fits perfectly in the palm of your hand. The display is 2.2 inch with a res of 320*240 and has got decent viewing angles. Videos play without a glitch as long as it is encoded right. The audio quality is top-notch and the the volume is loud and clear. The bundled headset is not very good and susceptible to damage as the wire quality is not very good.
The sim card slot is really flimsy and very difficult to add and remove. Same is the case with micro SD card slot. For a price tag of around 1600 I would say it is money well spent and worth every penny. Additionally you get a silicon pouch, a usb cable, and a pc sync cd which is of no use.
If anyone has got any questions post them and I will answer them. Thanks for reading!
