To Clinton,
I finally went for mapopolis as my mapping software since they offer Demo that you can try before buy. It took me awhile to find out how it works by talking with their technical support thru emails. It picks up the GPS singal at a decent speed and it's on COM4 but make sure you download the all the file (s) for the GPS feature. I'm gonna try it in my car tonight and see how well it will go before I make my purchase (map packs).

I have just received my Mio and i love it!!!!! Very well designed and many functions, this is the best smartphone i have ever had. I agree with 4tau: it is better than Tomtom. And if you want to protect it, try one of these fantastic cases from noreve.com Got mine in beige: exceptionnal!!!!! i love it!!!!

To Clinton,
I guess you're right, also maybe due to the mapping software you're using. I just received mine and so far so good. I will install Pocket Street 2005 and see how much luck I'm gonna get. I heard TomTom is working with it, except its voice feature.

The GPS and Bluetooth do work together, but the GPS location becomes inaccurate when Bluetooth is also enabled. Maybe it's because of the throughput of data from both signals at the same time, or maybe there is some kind of signal 'swamping' between the two signals...?
Bought the Mio A701 in the U.K. but now using it in Australia running Destinator PN.
-I still love the product!!!!!!, but would be nice to get to the bottom of this. I will be testing it more for this issue over the next few days for a more conclusive evaluation incase it's something else.

I have emailed TomTom and Navigon and they both said wouldn't work with our A701. I guess the A701 is just too new and they don't wanna say for sure as I heard TomTom and Navigon worked fine with other countries. Anyway, I called Microsoft and they told me the Pocket Street 2005 should work fine becuase it designed for Windows Mobile 2003SE or "later". I'm gonna give it a shot and see how much luck I have, will post the update in here.

I just purchased the Mitac Mio A701 and love everything about it, but I am experiencing a major functional issue and want to know if anyone has experienced the same:
I find that when I enable bluetooth for my handsfree carkit, the GPS with car navigation becomes inaccurate.
If I then disable bluetooth the GPS works properly again.
I'm hoping that if this is a valid issue, a ROM update in the near future will sort it out?!

Did not come with the user manual for the MIO A701. Anyone know where I can down load one at. Also how do you use the speed dial, I have added the numbers but when i touch them it does not dial like my siemens SX66 did.
Many thanks,

Been using my A701 for just over a week, running both TomTom & Memory Map without any problems. Excellent Phone/PDA. Just one issue with the stylus, the first broke in the unit, but managed to claw it out, so be careful!! It's not robust and is prone to break. Would have prefered it on top as well, I am looking for an alternative stylus that fits the unit.
