in fact this is very good phoneI have it for 4 years or more (i don`t remember :D)I haven`t had any problems with it exept for the chargindg Having in mind this phone is 2003 model it is PERFECT

Advantages are look, and sound and really good camera (if you are brave enough to upgrade the firmware). The speakers are loud and very hard to surpass sound quality. Camera lacks resolution, but beats most phone cameras I see today in noise and color balance. You have to upgrade firmware to get color balance, and it's not generally advised as it breaks warranty, but most moto fans do that anyway.
The main disadvantages are speed, poor java support (cannot upload photos or use bluetooth from java applications because of java implementation limitations) and small learning capacity of iTap.
Lack of performance is noticed everywhere, even in menu navigation. It also affects java applications like Jimm ICQ Client, Opera Mini, Google Mail Mobile. It cannot even be used as a jukebox as it doesn't have CPU power to play MP3 with bitrate above 192 kbps range.
Another disadvantage for me was that it didn't support AAC HE a.k.a. AAC+, so I couldn't rip my favorite online radio and listen to the recorded file on my mobile.
As you can see, I have quite unusual usage scenarios. For most people, the largest disadvantages are probably speed of menu, startup and shutdown and limitations of MP3 support to 192 kilobits or below.

I have been using this phone for the past 4 years and I can tell you Motorola cannot come up with a better phone than this. This is a class apart model and can be customized and modified for your own requirements.
GOOD THINGS
- Unbeatable sound quality ( Please do not compare it with the new phones as this was released in 2003 and have to respected that it still can give a run to most of the latest so called "Gadget phones")
- Unmatched features (Please spend some time exploring the possibilities)
- Easily customizable - Just go to any search page and type for "e398 monster packs".
- Boot loader modifications
- Customizable sound clarity ( using software)
- Its like using LINUX ( you have a great team of users who develop great software for this phone)
- Amazing clarity ( can be customized to a great extent)
- Adding gadgets to the phone is an easier story
- A lot of features on the phone have to be unlocked ( Just google it)
BAD THINGS
- Battery backup being low
- Lot of backend files are always working which kills the batteries life ( there is a new monster pack for this which solves the problem)
- If you install the monster packs and have added ITUNES in it, then the problem is in terms of getting the new SD card to get detected on the phone
Overall great phone, I have dropped it in water atleast a couple of times, the second time I have dropped it, it literally burnt the entire circuit as I could see smoke comming out of it. ( My brother used it after picking it up from water) .
After keeping the phone in rice for 4 hours I opened the entire phone and kept it in sunlight, took a blade and cleaned the white particles. Shorted with the wire and then reinstalled the software. Everything is working fine except the flashlight.
It is fine without it as I just love the phone and its features

its very comfortable to using.but charging is a big problem. but other side everything is ok.i am using last 3-4 yrs and still now.

This was a great buy for me E398.I'm using this phone since last 4-5 yrs..still it seems nice to me.In the price range this phone is really worthy and now it has become an old navy...but still my good friend.

Moto iz far more betr dan SE nd NOKIA.....
DIz set iz really great nd can be modded but I've never seen any Nokia set to get mod...
