I love this phone! When you touch it it doesn't feel like plastic unlike Nokia. Calling is very clear w/ it's crystal talk.

using my V82g for 2 weeks already. Except for outside casing and display i found no special feature that could justify its price. missed calls are not properly identified as it is included to the incoming calls listing. battery is also a problem.

No, there is no unbranded V8 that allows you to see the missed calls from the outside. You must have a V9.

well i am using this cellfone for the past 9 months n to b honest at the first it looked awesome with its styling metal body n external screen display but after using this phone it juss didnt paid up to my expectations..the worst problem i face is its sluggish battery packup (i dunno think it lasts more den 3 hrs while continued talking).other problem is its metal body paint coz it juss wears off after few months.camera is also poor....it only claims to b 2 mp bt i think nokia n-73 2 mp camera is far more better den this one..not a loud sound as well.headfones music is gud.overall not a worth purchase.

> In reply to ashish @ 2008-07-12 09:15 from PNLIAshish,
My personal experience - About 1/3 of the surface of my V8's back door was scratched off due to friction with my pant's tight pocket exposing the metal surface below. The black color surface (I believe it's silicone material)was worn off. I sent it back to Motorola Service Centre and they replaced it with a brand new back door totally FREE - no questions asked! Now I'm using the transparent plastic covers and this issue's solved. I've even dropped my V8 several times accidently and not even a scratch on the phone with this covers.
So what's the actual problem with your V8's back door?

The keypad sucks but the call quality is great, the battery is also far worse than Motorola's claims. Aside for that there seems to be many software version for this phone. But none allow you to see your missed calls without opening the screen? Motorola is dying for a reason. This phone is an example of Motorola's shortcomings.

Okay guys, here is the situation. Those who frequent here may already know that I am a long time Motorola user and have owned the v8 in two incarnations: the T-Mobile version and at present the luxury edition. I would like to know if someone can address the external key situation. I just bought my girlfriend the same phone and hers is slightly different in that the keys are more rounded tapering off from the center, and the phone has a fatter rubber stopper on the hinge slope so the phone does not open as far as mine. But the problem with her is that her external keys do not do anything other than control the music player. She cannot do anything else. I always found it strange why I could not view my missed calls on the external screen, with hers, her external screen shows no info. When she gets a missed call it simply indicates there is a missed call and she must press the outside left soft key to acknowledge this which makes the missed call indication disappear from the external screen. When she gets a text, it does the same, only this time it is "message". I noticed the software version were different in our phones.

@Stuart
Unless I'm wrong Jacks' problem would be classified under 'water damage' which is not covered by the warranty.

If your V8 is beyond repair and I assume your phone is within warranty period, did you manage to claim a new unit or warranty void? It's interesting to know under this condition how Motorola Service Centre handle this issue.
I certainly hope that you've got this sorted out by now.

There are certain instances when condensation takes place. Taking a shower while having your phone inside the showering room is one, also having your phone in a pouch for long without letting breathe (taking it out of the pouch for some air) is another. Sweaty hands do some damage too. Also, for women, handbags are culprits.
Hope this helps.
