> In reply to EMS06 @ 2008-08-22 22:16 from N7$5Hi EMS06 / Moto / Gerard,
I've had both the same issues you guys encountered on USB cover & battery cover. My battery cover was changed once and I solved it permanently with a crystal cover for my V8. Yes, the cover will "hide" a little of the V8's elegant look and is a little thicker so it is purely individual's objective on what you want. As I'm quite clumsy at times, I've actually dropped my V8 couple of times and this cover took the load and even cracked, my V8, not a scratch. Replacing it only cost a few bucks, better than scratching or having my V8 dented. The USB cover, hmm, I do hope Motorola comes up with a better design. My 1st USB cover split slowly in the middle, I've tried using super glue but only worked for a while. Fortunately our local Motorola Service Centre replaced it for free even after 6 months. It's been about 2 mths now after the replacement and it's OK so far.

My USB/chargin port cover has become loose, just bought glue to put it back together again. To be honest, I saw this coming. It is a flimsy cover and with continued use this was bound to happen.
@Gerard
My V8 is about 5 months and the back cover is peeling as well. I have never dropped it and I do not change my sim card but it started peeling and is spoiling the overall look of the phone.

The phone looks beautiful but looks can be oh so decieving. This is without a doubt the worst phone I have ever had the misfortune to own. The battery would not hold charge - in for repair - gone one month,lost all my pictures as I had not backed them up on computer, loan phone basic £9.99. Now the keys are sticking, I have a job sending texts and scrolling the menu. I cannot get a signal on board ship. Come on this is suposed to be a 'top of the range' phone. Telephoned Motorola - send it in for repair - no loan phone. Second option Carophone Warehouse Express Repair Service - apparently they will lend me a phone. Am I being pedantic in wanting my own phone and wanting it to work properly? I know other people who are experiencing the same problems. Come on Motorola - do something about it. If it wasn't for all the aggravation I am having I would not want to part with it, as it is I cannot wait til the end of my present contract.

Just to share my opinion on 3G since there are many comments on V8's lack of this feature causing its ratings poor due to this.
I've got another 3G phone but until now the 3G feature is still not being used or subscribed. Don't get me wrong, 3G network is still considered good & useful for SOME - those that require this particular service BUT I don't think it's useful for everyone - at least for now. A person should "subscribe" to 3G network if:
1. You need to be online at anytime, anywhere for internet & email access. Believe me, this is a really important person. (For those of us mostly sedentaries, who can wait until we get to a free WIFI hotspot or home to access to internet, then we don't need to pay or subscribe to a 3G network.
2. Video call is important to their livelihood. Example, for engineers / technical guys moving around a big factory or travel to sites far away with matters or visuals to report to HQ so that others could view the problems or happenings right away - definitely the 3G service. If you just want to chat on a 3G video call service, unless you & your friends could spare loads of extra dough, forget it. What you get is to look cool in front of others but you also make the telcos look more cool in their bank.
In my country, monthly 3G subscription cost about 100 bucks depending on speed and mostly with a contract of 2 years. Is it worth it? My personal opinion - NO. For video calls in my country, you'll still need the other party to have a 3G phone and subscribed to it. If not the video call won't happen. Based on current market situation, nowadays phones with 3G, bluetooth or even wifi, music player, high resolution camera with flash are in high demand, UNFORTUNATELY these features could drain your battery out faster than ever. If long talk time is what we are looking for, just make do with whatever we need, not what the trend needs. I came across a friend who actually thought 3G phones are faster (connection speed) than normal 2G phones. That's a joke alright. Since 3G is just a network service, it doesn't provide any advantages on connection speed or signal strength improvements. Unaware phone buyers are looking at 3G phones like it is a new "must have" feature in a phone and resellers are using it to push their sales up. Some say it's a new generation of technology feature in mobile phones. I agreed with that and 3G has its place - for those who really need it to help in their daily work or livelihood.
Still need 3G? Subscribe it only if you know what it does for you otherwise let it go.

> In reply to Ninth Delegate @ 2008-08-14 18:39 from 3H06Ninth Delegate,
I've used my V8 either for calls and SMS, both during car & wall charging plugged in. No problem at all. As far as I can remember, there was even one time that my V8 was charging (wall charge), playing mp3 songs when a call came in, I answered with my bluetooth headset without a hitch. So here I can attest that the V8 could do that.

Can this phone be used for calls/texts while it is plugged into the wall being charged? Previous motorola units are able to do this, but ive heard from some not so reliable sources that the V8 can not.
Could any owner give me confirmation please. Thanks.

@nawaz yar jung
It is quadband which means it works almost anywhere in the world. So, yes it will definitely work in Canada.
@Trey
Do the following: Go to messages>my folders>options>create folder>enter folder name,eg, personal or business>save. Then back to inbox> your selected message(s)>options>move to folder> choose from the folder(s) you created. Do this with all those messages you saved on your sim card until all are moved to the "My Folders" sub menu. The messages will thus be all in the phone memory and when you need to access them you just go to the "My Folders" sub menu.
Hope this helps.
