I decided to buy the L72/L9 back in late November as an early Xmas gift for my wife. After seeing the phone in person and trying it for myself, I decided to get one for myself as well. I was using a Samsung T619 From T-Mobile. That phone was TOTALLY USELESS. Always dropping calls, never sending messages and always having to clean up my messages memory because the phone only has room for 200 sms. And even when I had 5 bars (full signal), the phone still showed the NO SERVICE icon and message on the display! Samsung is ALL FLASH and NO SUBSTANCE. I've owned Nokia's before too but they just feel cheap to me. But they ARE the RECEPTION KING! When Motorola started using METALS in the construction of their phone, that turned the page for me.

When you first hold a bar style phone, you can feel how solid and durable the phone is. The metal construction of the SLVR just enhances those feelings. Especially when the metal is cold. The bar style also minimizes the points where the phone can squeak or flex which in turn alleviates the fear that your phone will break or fall apart over time. Ok let me stop talking about the constrution, It gets a 10.

Using the phone is very easy. When you first start using the phone, you WILL think that the phone is slow. It's not slow, it's just not as fast as Samsung or Nokia. The only thing that I feel that's missing within the menu system is NUMBERED Navigation, but it's not really missed. You get used to it and just start remembering the number of times u have to press up or down in the menus so its easy to find what you need fast.
The camera is fine for this price range. So what if there is no flash? Who takes pictures in the dark? Who even TRIES to take pictures in the dark? (Press 0 when using the camera to switch to Landscape mode.) I think the video recorder is better than any in this price range or class. The only limit is the amount of memory on your card. PLUS it records in the LARGER format of 352x288. This is the only phone in this class or range that records in that larger format!
It has an FM radio WITH RDS. This displays station info AND the title of the song playing, just like Satellite and HD radio.

The built in web browser is not very good. To remedy that, just install Opera Mini. It can handle 99% of web pages. It looks just like it would on a pc! The speed of the connection is not a problem if you live in an area with EDGE data coverage. Just remember, it's NOT a pc so complicated and media intense pages will load slower than normal because of the amount of data being transferred.

It supports JAVA applications. You can find anything you want on http://www.getjar.com or the mobile site http://wap.getjar.com

The ringtones are LOUD. You can even use mp3's as ringtones too.

It does not have a file manager like Nokia BUT you can find that on the MotoRAZR MAXX V6. I was going to get that phone but decided against it because its TRIBAND only (900, 1800, 1900) and even though it's 3G, it uses the 2100mHz band. I have T-mobile USA which will rollout 3G in th 1700mHz band. Hopefully sometime in 2008!
It has the other usual applications also. Datebook, Calculator and more. The world clock is nice too.

The battery life is not bad. Those that talk bad about it are forgetting that it's a PHONE first of all. Surfing the internet playing mp3's add an additional strain to the battery so you should expect the life to be shorter. I actually go 2 days on a full charge even after surfing 1 hour and listening to FM and mp3's for 30 mins a day. And the included headphones are nice actually. I just wish they had an inline volume control.

Note: Those with large fingers will have to get used to the keypad. It's kinda small, but you should expect that when u buy a phone this size.

And on a final note... The looks of a phone will only enthrall you for about a month or so. If your phone looks good but does nothing, what good is it? The SLVR L72/L9 does everything and does them well enough. You will be satisfied if you get this phone.

Also, our phone came with a menu icon that links u to the Google homepage. I removed it with help from the guys on http://www.modmymoto.com

My overall score for this phone with 10 being the highest, is 9.5. The only thing I don't like about the phone is the speed of navigation and response, but I'm really happy about my purchase and will never go back to sliders or flips again.

I bought 2 Motorola SLVR L72 kits which each included the following: the handset, 880mah (BK60) battery, travel charger, a wired stereo headset, mini usb adapter cable, a 512MB microSD card with full size adapter and the Motorola Phone Tools Software. Total cost was $350 USD ($175 USD each kit).

TOTALLY FREE.

i'm checking out this phone, with L7 i got pretty much what i've been looking for in a fone u can feel its sturdy carbon casing sort of metal plastic looking, the sound of L7 stands out than nokia and even v3x, its battery life even better even if I play music from a 1gb playlist, the keypad has a slick design too pretty sturdy the only back side is its pictures and the size of the screen, so like everyone else thinks it wont hurt to have a lil improvement on that. I liked L9 coz its the improved version although I wish u could make the screen longer like the size of v3i screen and the keypad shorter, I also wish motorola sticked with the keypad design of L7 it looks slicker than the new design. I also wish it has 3g. Nice fm radio addition So I'm still half convinced, I guess I

i got my L9 just last friday.and im very pleased with its features.the functions are very simple and not that complicated.it has a very elegant look and handy size..the sound quality is A ok.and the 2MP camera is very good..one of the best phones dat i got..i really love it..u better get rid of flip and slide-up phones cuz it will give you a big problem regarding the flex..L9 is worth buying..
