I loved the StarTAC when it was introduced, which is why I invented the StarCAP. I wanted to make it more durable and pocketable. I'm happy to see I wasn't alone.

I got my StarTac in late 2001 and I’m still using it today. I’m on my 2nd battery and things are going just great. I bought a StarCap antenna protection clip soon after I saw other people with broken antenna’s. So how did I choose the StarTac? I watched which sales guys ran out of the building to use their phones and which ones were walking around inside the building with no reception problems. Like everyone has said, great UI and sound. I found out I could get a new phone free from Verizon, so I started looking at the Motorola KRZR and LG 8600 and decided to just keep my StarTac for now. I’ve also got a Palm TX which covers most bells and whistles anyone could need.

Is the Star-Tac 85 compatible with the new FCC inspired satellite system in the US? I went to a Verizon store and the jokers talked me in to buying a new Moto-Razor, it was horrible. They said I had 15 days to take it back. I returned it in 2. When I asked them to turn my old Star-Tac7800W phone back on they said "oh, we neglected to tell you", we cannot reactivate that phone because it's not on the new Verizon satellite system. I was furious. I am now looking for a similar phone that can work on the new Satellit system. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Great phone!! I think i'm not wrong when I say it was the first phone to have been released in true clam-shell format. Still good-looking, still going strong after more than five years of operation. From a time when pc-to-phone comms and polyphonic ringtones were sparks in the eyes of designers :D

It is NOT possible , you have to compose your sms and then switch to the phone book and memorise the number ... good exersize ;) ...sms was not important when the phone was released.

pls mail where we insert sim card in model startac 85 ... emailaddress not valid !??
answer: in front below the charger connector. You need a BIG sim card. When have
trown away your big simadapter-card ... ask a friend or a shop ... use
cellophane tape on the backside to keep the sim in place in the adapter.

how can u pple say shit bout this phone, it is 7 years old!!! i bought the newer version the australian version, it was a great phone, until it got droped, by last year its antenna had fallen off, the badge where it says motorola started to loose its black paint and became gold everywhere, the phones battery is f***ed thats the only reason i changed phones, you cant say there was anything better at the time because this was the classic true flipphone and it will always be a classic i will never sell mine, the phone is worthless, but it beats phones made even years after it, this is less faults than my 8210, 8250 which both screens have broken, due to nokiaz faults which they would of fixed but they gave out no notice and i found out after. all the volume buttons have broken etc, i have to take off the case to turn off and on the fone. this fone has none of those troubles. if only this fone didnt stuff up with the batt. i would still use it great fone changed the world i rekon, so small yet soo old as seen on the perfect murder movie.
