the battery is in the i-pod style. you need to open it up to replace it. this of course makes the warranty void

What's up with the lack of memory & no card slot? Why woould they add MP3 player w/only 26MB of memory & no card slot even? Hella retarded, even though the phone is gorgeous!

Nec L1 is a very delicate & well made phone (a lot better finishing & made than Nokia 8800). The reception of this L1 is very stable & strong. The boot up time is very short (you get reception within 5 seconds after turning on the phone & you can get datas very soon after). . . I never encounter encounter another phone as fast . . . excellent in this respect.

Jolly Roger :
I just picked up two of these L1. I notice that when I close the flip when I am in the camera mode or in the inbox message, this phone will not go back to the standby mode automatically. Why is this?
I live in Hong Kong & we are the first to get this phone model. I tried the phone a few weeks ago (already available for sale even before the official launch) but wasn't too impressed because the buttons weren't so nice to press (the feel of the feedback)!
The reasons behind my decision to buy two :-(one for my dad) is because of your opinon/comment towards this L1.
The other reason is that I am fed-up with Nokia 8800........I brought a total of five (5) of them in the past months, one after another, but I encountered different problems with every single one of them (namely software & quality contral problem)!
I brought my 6th 8800........but this time is for my mom & not myself. She loved it because of the look & the clear sound of the loud speaker. She only use the phone for incoming & outgoing calls ONLY & nothing else.
Anyway, the L1 seems like a solid & well built phone.
By the way, my first Nec MP dated back to 18-20 years ago. The second one about 2-3 years ago when it first came on the market (the NEC N8) which was terrible because it was big for a modern phone at the time but the battery life was very poor.......you can barely make 2-3 calls & the battery will need a recharge!

I agree. Nokia's current and upcoming model designs are, in my opinion, getting worse. Eventhough I feel they have one of the most user-friendly system around, but I'm looking for more than that now. For functionality and style, I took a liking towards Panasonic, Sony Ericsson and Samsung.

People buy Nokia because they are used to this brand........not because Nokia phones are any better or good looking or better made !!! In fact, Nokia phones are poorly made nowadays !!!!!!!!

Excellent Design... Great Quality... The dream phone I was waiting for long. Thanks NEC to give this nice slim phone. Otherwise, you would end up using UGLY NOKIAs (40% marketshare), at whatever prices they ask for. Don't make NOKIA another MICROSOFT. We as consumer should keep promoting the new great designs to get benefits of compititions.

Believe it or not, I got this phone about a week ago. I stay in Singapore, it's a phone market here. After using for this long, I give it a 8/10 because I prefer good simple solid phones to ones that's fully packed with features.
And Jack, if you do some comparision, this phone does have a shorter standby and talk time than the rest simply because the battery is built-in. hope that answers your question.
