I went for this phone when I had the choice between an Iphone or this XDA Zest. Previously I've had a HTC Trinity (3600) for 2 years which has been fantastic (thanks to XDA-Devleopers unending Roms!) but it's getting a bit worn down now and the Dpad was going a bit! So I went for this rather than an Iphone.

Personally I think it was a great choice - for a start O2 ships this phone on PAYG and it's unlocked (fact) I'm on 3 and it accepted the sim straight away - no probs. The Iphone has GPS but no decent navigation software (google maps being great fun but no use in a car!) - I had TomTom from my previous phone and on 640x480 it looks fantastic - much high resolution and you can read all the street names from a distance now easily!

This phone's screen beats the iphone in resolution even though the screen isn't quite as large - movies on it are no probs - and microSD slot means I can upgrade to as much memory as I like (cheap 8gig card in there right now).

Internet wise - download Skyfire for free and it's a great little browser - full screen rendering (for those crazy proxy server haters - yes it's possible that someone somewhere given enough time and determination could see what you are viewing - but if that's a concern then you shouldn't be visiting those sites!! :o )

All in all - given the huge amount of PPC apps available - it's great! Touch screen is fantastic and SPB mobile menu is very good.

Love it - recommended!

> In reply to PanNet @ 2009-04-02 23:31 from pcv{ - click to readTe reset hole only does a soft reset.

To do a hard reset (as delivedred from factory) you need to select o2 menu/settings/default settings and follow the onscreen instructions.

I think if you have put files onto micro SD card they remain - but probably best to backup (before restting) if you need them.

If your touchscreen is not working try a soft reset (hole near USB connector) - this may restore your non-working touchscreen so that you can do a hard reset (as above). Failing that, you can also do a hard reset by pressing the WINDOW key (above the green dial key) and select settings/system/default settings.

I guess there may be a way of doing a hard reset if your phone is completely locked but I have not found how to do that yet!

Zest Hard Reset:
Joystick up + Power + Soft reset in bottom (push with stylus)

You can also get back factory settings via menus:
Start - Settings - System - Default Settings -
Password is 1234.

Remember that everything may/will go including contacts, sms, etc

Not bad. But could be better. My phone is full of bugs and no upgrade for the software is available. There are two internet browsers. One is very poor the opera one is better but not as good as the mini opera four on the symbian os. And cras compared to the iphone. Google maps was not included. Downloading it was a struggle. The screen resolution is excellent and very readable in sunlight. Builtin applications such as word and excel are fine. The touch screen is good. Works with pen, finger and d pad. No haptic feedback. The phone is fast and responsive, except for the internet. Camera is good the video resolution is third rate. I want vga at 30 fps.

*CPU is 32bit Intel XScale PXA900 624MHz based on an ARM design that is fabbed by intel/Marvell. Better than more expensivemodels.
*GPS is based on SiRFstarIII chip. IE - FAST!
*Screen is 2.8" but 640 x 480.
*120g with battery.

£187 from O2 with discount.

9/10

This is branded as O2, but ASUS is the one who made this. Very similar to ASUS P552w, only this is better. The only differnece is that it has a 3mp cam and 640x480 display. I like ASUS, coz they make durable pocket pc's and also laptops.

Fantastic little device, O2 have made a good choice moving away from the HTC to this ASUS device (Branded the XDA Zest). Please note peeps, this is an ASUS and carries a certain pedigree. I've owned one for the last couple of months, good sound quality on calls and actually a pretty decent battery life! If you are looking to get a more PDA like phone and still have some fun, this is a good one to look at!

I have one of these, the volume is really quiet for a phone & the media player keeps crashing when you switch it off. Please can anyone tell me if they are having the same problems, or what can be done to resolve it? I have used xda's for the last 4 years & never had either of these problems before is it just the phone design? thanks in anticipation

This Device was made not by HTC, it from ASUS. So I don't know how about the operation and Speaker.
I used O2 6 years, so the speaker not so loud or the vibration not so smart I can agree with O2. But with another new user I think it will be hardly accepted.
Is it will change with this O2 XDA Zest?
Speaker loudly
Strong operation
Better Vibration
