Android Studio/IDEA is cross platform.
Why use Android Studio, when you can use Xamarin (or even VS, as mentioned below) and be cross-platform?

Nowadays you might as well use Visual Studio to develop an app once and deploy it across all platforms with minimal effort instead of making a totally different app for every platform with a different IDE for every platform.

This sucks! I wanna keep using Eclipse because it's the same with Java Applications! Shit, I guess as this shit arrived, the possibilities with Eclipse will get more limited as time passes and this just sucks. Thank you Google for getting developers off your platform!

AnonD-4340, 09 Dec 2014Would be hard to make this Java only, and lets be honest about Eclipse, the ones who made that... moreOr it might be just the installer thats OS dependent whereas the IDE itself is not - as with jEdit.

The Linux version requires Gnome or KDE and a C library so it is obviously not very platform independent at all. The great thing anyway is that they bothered to make it for Linux, hopefully there is or will be a DEB repository somewhere so we can just add the rep in Debian and apt-get whatever parts of it we like whenever we like. Alarming that they tested it on Ubuntu though, Ubuntu never bothered to use stable libraries but always went for the latest at any cost but i doubt Debian users will have to use any libraries from the SID branch, this requires glibc 2.1 and without checking i think SID is on 2.20 or above.
coudn't understand one word :p
This reads like an advertisement!
"Download for Windows"? For a particular OS? Shouldnt that be "Download for java" or just "Download" (for any OS) - as with Eclipse?
Microsoft had this kind of IDE long ago. used to do windows CE abd windows pocket on visual studio 6 and its was very nice and simplified. just hope google can manage to top visual studio.
