The rear design is cool and the colors are beautiful, but the back design... Personally I think it's a huge bummer.

1. Speed wise, in real life (no benchmarks) the difference will be negligible (nexus 5 is a very fast phone).
2. The camera in the nexus 5 has OIS and full (and proper) lollipop camera API implementation, raw/manual support. m9 has no OIS and it is questionable how well htc will implement the camera API in lolipop.
3. The nexus 5 I have has better display (to my liking) than htc m8. Please note, I am aware that some nexus 5 batches have bad displays, however mine was very bright and with beautiful colours. Of course my note 4 has a much much better display, but that is to be expected.
4. htc m9 wins in the speaker's area hands down.
5. Both have not replaceable batteries. nexus 5 however is relatively easy to open, not so sure about m9.
6. no fingerprint scanner for both.
7. Nexus 5 will be supported for at least another year, and will get the next android version much quicker.
overall m9 is just a slightly better phone than nexus 5.
HTC wants to say "Don't fix the design if it ain't broke." Yeah, well, the design is broke. A black bar, non-symmetrical speakers, and, as a new addition, a protruding camera. C'mon HTC this M9 is basically just what the M8 should have been last year.
ahmed, 01 Mar 2015You haven't seen th s6 yet!!!S6 is ugly as hell
androiduser123, 01 Mar 2015why would htc change the already awesome design of the m8...i meam just for the sake of changi... moreAwesome design yet very few ppl buy it? That should tell you something. Believe it or not, bloggers and journalists aren't the ones buying the phone, it's the consumers. Just because every journalists out there is too afraid to speak their mind and sidestep the big issue, which is the part of the phone that users will SEE - the front of the phone, doesn't make it an instant money maker. Yea you can excel in having good hardware and software, but when you can't make the phone look presentable and attractive, you're not going to be selling many.
I hope whoever in their right mind would think having even MORE bezel by removing the capacitive buttons from the black bar and putting it on screen was a great idea, deserve to be fired from this awesome company.

Samsung produces hitech cr..ap
Never ever buy a sammy TV, ever...
Or phone for that matter
Good phone, nothing revolutionary, but the design...apart from a back camera bumb, exactly the same as m8...
Only new internals which every manufacturer can put in, even chinese ones
Come on hTC...people expected sth new and refreshing after a year
faro, 01 Mar 2015That is just slightly better than nexus 5.
If htc charge more than £350 for this thing... morePlease define your post. The only thing good about the the Nexus 5 was the SoC and the stock Android it's running, everything else was cheap. Everything about this phone is quite the opposite, top notch HW, including SoC, all packed inside of a premium housing.
I own an N5 and I like it a lot, but you shouldn't make such meaningless claims. If an M9+ has similar characteristics and at least a 5.7" screen(the only reason I won'tbuy this one), I will buy it no doubt.
saldly i will get this over the sammy. ability to unlock the bootloader and sd card overshadows the gs6

DISAPPOINTING: Same old design, Huge bezels (LOGO on top of speaker) makes the phone larger than necessary. I like the HTC hardware and was really looking forward to M9, but I think I have to look somewhere else for a flagship smartphone (Sony Z4).
I really can't explain myself. So shocked. What has happened to the Android OEMs? Before they would come up with different designs, new features, and whatsoever.. Now it is a big fail. Like seriously? No new screen technology, same design slightly different, same software by the looks of it.. Big fail.. Can't wait for Samsung. Whatever they be making, I'll buy.. By the leaks, Samsung is really overhauling and changing its design..
so the leaks were the real thing and we knew everyting in advance.
Bye bye HTC
Pros from an aesthetic viewpoint:
The gunmetal looks "darker" than the M8 and the speaker grills integrate better with the screen because of it. BIG plus! It might have been cool to have the gold bezel on the the gunmetal because black and gold contrast well with each other, much better than silver and gold IMO.
The all gold model looks brushed instead of satin like the M8. I compared the M8 gunmetal to the gold and it was no contest. Brushed is way better than satin. The gold M9 may be a winner for that alone.
Con: Everyone has stated it already, and I don't think ANY of the Google phone makers suppliers are listening. This includes Sammy, LG and Sony:
We want to look at the SCREEN and not a logo. Why they feel the need to plaster their branding on the front of the device when it should just be on the back is beyond me. This is the one thing Apple does right with their phones.
If the M9 concept renders were what HTC actually came out with all the negatives posted here would be positives and people would be lining up. Alas it's one thing to mock up a 3d render and another to actually manufacture taking into account the internals.
