I have done this many time in the past with my HTC TyTn. However, be very careful to not brick you phone while upgrading or else it will become unusable and you'll have to get it repair.

I am using this version of OS on my XDA Atom Life. Its really amazing. infact Apple should learn lesson of customization from this version of WM OS.

I really don't get it. WM is such complex, powerful OS and yet its UI just suck. What's so hard in, say for example, setting font sizes to thumb-friendly, resizing graphics to thumb-friendly or for coded stuff just enlarging parameters to thumb optimal when all other things are already implemented???!! The reason why I adore WM phones is just Touch FLO 3D.

look people if your winmo is popular enough like X1, Omnia than theres always someone cooking a custom rom with all the latest stuff.

thats one of the main reason people cash out heaps for The Diamond, Omnia, Touch HD and their squeals cause they last and become new phone with every rom to upgrade them to.

No one really uses the official "Samsung" or "HTC" upgrades cause people either don care and the ones who do care have custom roms.
