"A centralized, Apple-like approach"
Translation - delay the update until it works with all devices that are not at their end-of-life period.
microsoft definitely moving towards right direction with this news.. Only android that still suffering from fragmentation..
I still say delta updates (like what I'm getting on my nexus 6 once a week) is the best approach. It happens once a week, asks me if I want to download it, is always smallish (around 20-100mb), and ensures that I always have the most current, bleeding edge version with the newest features that are dev added. In the past 2 months, absolutely no issues, and it just keeps getting better.
I'm using a UK country variant of lumia 1520 unlocked how will it get updates after windows 10 is installed will it come from Microsoft directly as well or what. Can someone tell me plz
nice move by MS, all phones should be updated at the same time. i have a galaxy a5 and my bro has note 4, he already updated to lollipop while my galaxy a5 still stuck on kitkat and android M is rumored to be release anytime soon. android will be the only one left with a very high fragmentation, unless they do something about it.
As long as we don't need to factory reset every time we updated a firmware like what Android needed to.
At last Microsoft! let carriers go to hell! customers comes first not carries!
Thank you! everyone was waiting for Microsoft to do that.
i have my L1520 and my carrier does not update my phone because they suck! so by doing that i will get all the updates without caring whose your carrier, a la Apple, this is the way to go. Bravoooooo
Mada Fouad, 17 May 2015I still didn't get Denim update in Egypt for Lumia 1020 while you taking about W10!!! ?That's the entire point of this article. We won't have to wait for carriers to approve updates to devices anymore and we'll just get them when they're ready.

Great work on Microsoft part.
I dislike their OS for other reasons (I'm not a fan of tiles and their personalization doesn't really allow me to get around that), but we have to give them credit where it is due.
Austin Ames, 17 May 2015Apple still the WINNER. Microsoft think so long n work so long for this Window 10.....Well, Apple don't think so they have to push patches after every firmware update to repair bugs and defects the pushed before by just not thinking.
It's a lot more easy to promise push-updates for a few million devices than it is for a couple of billion of devices. Especially when those couple of billion of devices have a wide range of hardware in them, instead of just a few select options.
