A new HOOK cellphone design breaks from the bar form factor - read the full textA new intriguing mobile form factor concept comes from the Brazilian designer Fabio Dabori. The so-called HOOK promises to innovate the keypad locking mechanism and push the future mobile designs to a new direction of smaller, more compact handsets. The HOOK concept is actually quite simple - a...

I see no difference from this to the flip down phone format (eg. Ericsson T28). Close the flip to activate keyguard (and in this case it actually protects the keys). Flip it down to use the keys, and it also houses the microphone.

So nothing new here except the 'hook' is smaller and does not even protect the keys.

Its Quite interesting but the main flaw is that the design does'nt
have d-pad or some navigation like thing...

I think only Brazilians will think this is a good design, out of patriotism than anything else.

I also think this is a silly idea. I see the point is to allow you to retrofit any existing bar phone into this locking device, but I do not like the look at all.

where is p%nm to throw in his 2 cents.Seems like the guy has to be everywhere sharing what he thinks he knows.

Well this concept is really good.It is very interactive. If phone maker companies put it in the phones it will be cool. They can even make the HOOK to answer or ignore calls like slider or flip phones. When the user wants to answer an incoming call he will just put the HOOK down. When he completes the call he can simply pull it back.Just like the flip/slider phones. It's kinda cool!

WOW!!!...Groundbreaking idea....NOT!!

I can barely talk myself out of blowing my brains out with a sawed off shotgun, because of the oh so tedious task of pressing the unlock button to use my mobile.

Instead of this junk, how about some better built phones??

this "hook" design is a complete design flaw and 'will never see the daylight' .

I don't understand the argument "because of the hook there will be more space left, so cell phones can be smaller and in different form factors"... The hook is supposed to be flush with the phone (otherwise it'll be sticking out and I don't think that's the intention), so now you have a "hook + mic" to fit in the phone instead of "just a mic"...
