Google Maps Navigation now available for Android 1.6 too - read the full textSatNav manufacturers have surely sweat up when the big G announced Google Maps Navigation. But it was Android 2.0 only for use in the US. Now Google is cranking up the dials in the sauna and are letting Navigation loose on Android 1.6 (or Donut in their pastry-based codenaming scheme)....

VOICE NAVIGATION DOES WORK, i tested it yesterday, the day it came out. you just need to download the text-to-speech pack from the market. very very nice, exactly as i expected from a gps. updates frequently and smoothly even under a very bad edge network here in my small town. map rotates so your tracking always faces north, something GPS one-click doesn't have (and i jsut bought it last week :\ but only $2.99 ) google gps really works and does everythign i need it to, layers are awesome, w/ optional traffic info, as well as all the lights and gas stations you are approaching as well as navigate in satelite mode, i prefer just map on a slow network and it's easier to the eyes.

The device still needs a digital compass to make the navigation work, am I correct?
