Yes, for 2009, But up coming years I thought they will lost a lot because of their poor support and slow firmware updates and the regional game, where customer in Europe they have the latest firmware but the customers in Middle-East still suffering the delay.

From Middle-East:

Yeah you're right, Symbian softwares are no match to the number of iPhone apps but then you get better things like multi tasking, browser with flash support, JAVA support on your phone, expandable memory slots, better camera with dual LED flash, excellent high resolution screen with 16:9 aspect ratio, replaceable battery, no need to jail break it for optimal use thus no need for voiding warranty among countless others.
Just enjoy your phone.

> In reply to [deleted post]Yes the UI is extremely poor. That's why I said they should go for Android. The Samsung Jet would be worth £300 if it had Android, but it's only £200 right now with the TouchWiz os.

> In reply to Rabinder @ 2010-01-31 15:20 from u1tP - click to readI got my Nokia 5800 for £127 Brand NEW!

It comes with something special: Free GPS for life from Nokia for World maps! No other phone manufacturer (Samsung etc.) can say that. I just love this phone and I got it cheaper than a Corby which is around £130. Oh and my phone has WiFi, 3G, Very good video recording, good touch screen, radio, pretty much everything you'll find in an iPhone minus the amount of apps of course =P.

services nokia are giving are not comparable, and are not achievable immediately i.e. free voice guided navigation, release of software updates quickly, OVI store is becoming hot-cake (most users know bt ovi but very less have info about samy application store) etc, still they are made short in the short-run but will dominate in the long-run as it was. second they have phones for every taste entry level, mid-range, high-end. so a year increase in sales can't be regarded as "moving towards number-1"

Samsung could boast more their profit if they can retain the loyalty of its customers thru supporting each line of product sold. I am a samsung jet owner (S8003) and i notice that i can barely find an apps and update on the device. It is frustrating to invest in a mobile phone were specs are suppose to be high end but due to limited support its usability is limited (just like buying a low end phone). I hope samsung will look into this matter. I know some samsung owners have this greivances.

I think you left a "million" out.

"The summary shows that Samsung managed to ship nearly 227 million units, which is good 16% more than the 196 phones sold in 2008."

227 million is more than 16% higher than 196, a LOT more.

I didn't know Samsung only sold 196 phone's in 2008, I thought they sold more.

As a first time Samsung owner (Samsung Preston S5600), I am very impressed with my mid-high end phone. Great price, great quality. Takes pictures better than my sis' nokia 5800XM.

Moving forward with Samsung, sooner or later they might be the no 1 phone manufacturer in the world if these good phones keeps coming out.

Just before Apple Fan go crazy about their number, The difference between Apple and Samsung report is that samsung report at gsmarena is only its mobile division. While apple did not provide a break down thus gsm reported its sales and profit as a whole consolidated number.

If im not wrong, Mr Job says that apple is the largest mobile company in the world when he announce his itampon, oh, i mean ipad. If they were to compare their 15 billion (consolidated) 4th Qtr sales compares to Samsung 35 billion 4qtr sales or 118 billion full year sales, they would look like a midget instead of claiming as the world largest mobile company.

Among the big-time cellphone brands, only Sony Ericsson seems to come with a huge deficit for year 2009 so far lol
