> In reply to kapten @ 2010-02-10 14:16 from sF%y - click to readThe operating system known as "Linux" (proper name is GNU / Linux), is divided into two parts, the small kernel called "Linux" is from Finland, originally developed by Linus Torvals, and the rest of the operating system (the largest and most arduous part), called GNU, which was developed in the United States, by Richard Stallman and the GNU project, please visit http://www.gnu.org/gnu/linux-and-gnu.html this is the origin of the free software movement (free of freedom) and the open source movement as well.

It would be nice to standardize on a mobile OS instead of all this plethora of OSes like Android, Maemo, Symbian, WinMobile...
Industry/users should consider building a standard OS that address user's/business requirements, reliable, and performing. Too much efforts wasted on customization.
Take for example Linux distros. Despite the user of same kernel, it's too many too confusing, deterring a lot of potential users to use an open source OS.

of course the new s60 ui can compete with iphone and android, they can "copy" some of them
nokia is largest phone manucfaturer, they have many models, they will never offer os upgrade. They will lose money if they do so

Will people contribute enough to make it compete with iPhone/android kind of user interface?
Symbian OS is excellent but lacks feel like iphone/android kind of UIs.
The real joy would be when we are able to flash our old phone with latest releases of OS which Nokia did not allow to make way for its newer models.

Does this mean that we won't have to hack our symbian with HelloOX for "optimal" use of the phone??

> In reply to GIGI'S @ 2010-02-04 13:06 from pqDu - click to readcoz phones like N97 based on symbian OS does'nt come upto the expectation of the customers. problems like system crash and hanging up have been very disturbing. making symbian open source will be helpful in removing these issues
