I am so lost with this process of maploader stuff.

Firstly, I can't seem to find a site to download the Nokia map loader
, or the correct version, on to my PC (using windows 7). And the one from the nokia site, version1.1, is not working! Please help!

Thereafter is one supposed to use it via Ovi Maps, or by itself and then through the phone?

I am no wizz at this, clearly!

My experience on OVI SUITE is a total disappointment.

I think the maps work on Nokia N900 but the voice guidance is only designed to work on smart phones using Symbian OS... Hopefully this should work soon for Maemo too.

I had the same issues loading maps using Map Loader. Paul's fix did not work for me as you may need root directory access to make the name change work. But I did fix the problem another way.

I had problems trying to get the map loader to recoginise my N900. Tried it in PC Suite and HD modes but no joy. In the end I turned off the phone and connected it again and finally it was recognised and is now downloading. Hope this helps others that are having the same problem.

heres the instructions to get Nokia Map Loader to work with the N900

if, like me, you have trouble getting the Map Loader to recognise your N900 on both WinXP and Win7, then try this fix:

- Contary to what the Nokia web site says, connect the N900 in PC Suite mode
- before you do that though, open up X Terminal and type this command:

cp /home/user/MyDocs/.qf /home/user/MyDocs/qf

Now try running the Map Loader and it should recognise the N900.

Well i have just checked with Nokia Direct, and the have informed me that it is NOT available for the N900, so it seems GSMARENA are wrong !!!!

i tried it several times it wont work if u put it using mass storage the program will ask you to put in pc suite mode
and if u put it in pc suite mode it wont work at all

so whats the solution here?
