Imagine they replace Gmail with Inbox, that would be it for me.
I love Picasa on my PC, and they did update it quite a lot in the past years. I use it and it alone for viewing images (Except for .gif).
Does anyone know of an app similar to Picasa on PC?
On my Android phone I use f-stop gallery and sometimes Piktures.

People people - put your toys back in your strollers and have a bit of patience.
This IS Google's attempt to consolidate services and softwares. Everything you can do on Picasa you'll be able to do on Google photos. Yeah they take their sweet time but it'll happen. I'm guessing it's taking a little longer as photos is more cloud based. If you don't like your photos going to the cloud - turn off the setting and use any other of the bazillion softwares / apps that handle photo management.
I don't understand why Google hates Picasa so much. They bought it because it was an awesome solution for photo management and were never able to come up with anything better. This just doesn't make sense.
Google has lots of products and services, they're bound to shut some down especially if the software isn't popular or they have a better alternative, which is the case here.

Those in charge of Google softwares are rather scatterbrained. I don't understand things can't be cohesive rather than the cacophonous situation we currently have.
'The Picasa desktop application will no longer be supported' when was it supported exactly.. never saw a single update in last 3 years
This is the scary thing about Google, they have a habit of just closing stuff down. This is a horrible scenario if you invested lots of time and effort in something Google related and they just close it.
Things you can do in Picasa that you can't do in Photos:
1. Rotate photos quickly
2. Search for several tags at the same time
3. Tag all the pictures in a folder in one go
4. Find duplicates
There are probably many more, I was never a hardcore Picasa user, but saying that Photos is plain better than Picasa is bullshit, or ignorance.
The desktop app is actually very useful. It's been my go-to photo management application for years. Especially for mass-resizing of photos is a great feature, where I can take lots of high-resolution photos at, say, a party or wedding, quickly select all the ones that I would like to make smaller for sending in e-mails, press Export, select the output resolution and it does the rest quickly. Maybe there are other tools that does the same job, but the way Picasa Desktop does it is so quick and convenient. I'll continue to use it for that feature alone. For someone who does not store their photos online, all the cloud features of Google Photos are not of value to me.
