I have the HTC M7 which I had to pay a mere 700 euro's (about 800 american dollars) for about 3 years ago. You think this device got the update to Android 6? No way! Google does it too with it's Nexus devices (for instance the Nexus 4 doesn't get the latest updates anymore).

Nexus should have been the culmination of pure android experience, yet they misses out on sd card storage. 16gb ROM might be a subjective issue overall.
Anyway, it's good to hear Samsung is keen on updates. Hope they can spare time on their older models.

Though old phones has unlockablr bootloaders. Even me, i have galaxy ace 2 (pretty old now) BUT, i can run marshmallow easily by custom romming it. And whats wrong with you? but i have kitkat instead of marshmallow, because kitkat was the best android versiom, and it has a lot of features plus works the best for mid/low range smartphones. I have my phone already for more than 3 years, and i feel like it can last 1 or even 2 more years, till its starts break or happen smth.
See this is the problem with samsung. All the new phones are updated like breeze but the old ones struggle to get!! With passage of time and frustrating hangs and lesser updates people realise that the huge investment they made have gone to waste.
