Meego is for intel processors can't have an Snapdragon CPU...
so it's probably Symbian^3 here...
I have seen videos of it and that 5mp camera thing is bull*hit. In the videos you can clearly see that it has a 8mp camera.
deep space bar, 26 Aug 2010gimp is fun to use lol. I.ve been using ubuntu for 2 months and i have to say ....maemo 5 is f... moreI know Maemo is full linux.
But you have to understand the concept of pruducts, since it is full linux its a full computer experience in your pocket.
The more ram, and the more CPU, the heavier processes you can run on it.
It can run full desktop computer applications, not just mobile versions!
The OS is not heavyweight, but in a computer, the OS is not the only thing that needs CPU and RAM.
In a traditional smartphones, you might have some lightweight apps running on top of the OS, that does not require a lot.
But when you get in to using full desktop apps, its a different story. Image and video processing, vand really be done in a traditional smartphone, not without a moible program with restrictions... in a MeeGo system, the RAM and CPU are the limits. Very different from other mobiles.
I think that a 5mp camera for any smart phone coming out today is behind, My N96 had five, and so does my n97, I hope the N9 has at least 8. I mean if the N8 is going to have 12, why have the N9 so low? Well these are just leaked information nothing concrete yet.

Anonymous, 26 Aug 2010ugly nokia phone as usual, it would take Nokia another 20 years to make a phone that's thinner... moreyou know this less space in the phone the more problems it will have...overheating or exploding. Have you seen all the problems with the iphone and moto droid XD OVERHEATING issues
No natural air to go through the phone
Those problems will form for sure
Just like not having a cooler for your overclocked cpu....it will burn out, melt or explode cause it's retaining to much heat
Anonymous, 26 Aug 2010ugly nokia phone as usual, it would take Nokia another 20 years to make a phone that's thinner... moreand if it would, not that it will... who would really care?
as long as the device is not to thick, the tickness is only a show-off feature.
often a phone that is to thin does not feel as good to hold. To keep them thin, they usually have sharp edges, which makes it even worse.
For those wondering what you would use more than 1GHz for in a phone, you have to understand the difference between a MeeGo phone and other phones on the market.
MeeGo is full linux, meaning that all kinds of applications can be ported. Gimp, for example, and a software like that needs a powerfull cpu, and gains from lot of ram. (I on the other hand think 512mb + the virual ram this will have, will probably be enough to do a lot). N900 could run debian inside of Maemo, if MeeGo can do the same, to do that you need quite a lot of ram and processor speed.
Other phones do phone stuff, and run apps produced for mobiles.
If you put a dual core 1.5Ghz cpu in a Android phone, what would you really need that power for? It would drain battery, and you might see a performance boost in the OS.
The same goes for symbian...
Not until someone made apps that makes use of all that power, its just draining you battery.
In a mobile computer, like a MeeGo device, the CPU might help you use the Gimp for image editing. It might help you to do some upscaling and processing in videos you play thru the HDMI port. It might help you run your favorite desktop OS inside MeeGo, to do things youd noramlly do on your laptop, and run arm compatible programs, that are not yet for MeeGo.
So in this case, both the person asking for better CPU and more ram, and the ones claiming you dont need it in a mobile are correct.
But you have to realize this isnt really a mobile, its a mobile computer... its the future of smartphones.
ugly nokia phone as usual, it would take Nokia another 20 years to make a phone that's thinner than 10.9mm
nokiafan, 24 Aug 2010n9 release date confirmed December 2050!!!some on said nokia N9 release date to be in 2050 ,he must be on the moon
this brought a smile to my face. nokia haters can finally rest their big gobs
Mobil1, 25 Aug 2010Yep...I agree. Someoe please tell me why you would need more that 512mb's of RAM & a 1gHz... moreThe problem is that most of this wannabe tech junkies on GSMarena are just posers. They don't really know, they just pose, and want to act all techy, rich and smart. I bet ya 99% of them that talk to much wannabe tech nonsense here are still in highschool and can't even afford a 100 dollar phone on their own, let alone a 700 dollar one.
yes because of "junkie" we have what we have today. More speed pls !!
My N900 has only 256MB of RAM and it can multi-task easily. Double the RAM to 512MB in N9? It will have more power than you know what to do with. I'm more interested in the speed of HSDPA and HSUPD. GPRS/EDGE class 32 or 33 will probably won't matter much. Class 32 on N900 is working beautifully for me. 64GB will be nice for those who will be shooting lots of 720p videos. Although the N8 variant with keyboard is more attractive to me, we'll just have to wait and see. I just can't wait to see the N9....
Yep...I agree. Someoe please tell me why you would need more that 512mb's of RAM & a 1gHz processor.
My daughter has an HP PC from 6 yrs. ago that has a 1.8gHz processor, & 512mb's of RAM, it works perfectly for everyday tasks. No slowdown whatsoever.
Some of you people are total spec junkies, with the mentality of "more is better". I am guessing you took that stance when you ate your Flinstones vitamins as children, & now suffer from toxic bulidup of iron...LOL
Unless you can back-up what you are saying...don't bother posting.
Anonymous, 25 Aug 2010Technology rises and in this era if u hav 2 stand updated u hav 2 provide the best specs......... moreYou still didn't answer me why you need a "mobile phone" with more the 1Ghz processor and 512 RAM? Answer me that i will understand. What is it exactly you want to do with it? I don't believe for a second that you have the Galaxy S, i can read right through you, but that's just me.
Anonymous, 25 Aug 2010nokia... any nokia is crap, thats my view from experience,BYEagree nokia is loser & suck now. their symbian^1 team is really disappoitment & their design team is really not good. nokia need change old man & give to young man.
I guess people here are forgetting a crucial fact about N9 RAM. The spec sheet says 512MB, which is just the physical ram. Since this runs Meego, an offshoot of linux, the os will need virtual ram which has to be twice the size of the physical ram. So, this device will have a total of 1.5GB of user-executable ram. Now this is what I call cutting-edge!
Technology rises and in this era if u hav 2 stand updated u hav 2 provide the best specs...........same spec phones are available and in the future months these mite get outdated............so its an opinion 2 make phones thinkin of future and not providin outdated specs and canvassin them as the top.............if it was launched 5 months back it would hav been top bt being 7 months late means its nothin extraordinary....jus bluffs and acts 2 pull customers
