Defy is surprisingly sleek looking, light weight and not a tank looking phone. Compare its size to the iphone 3gs or any iphone and it is smaller to hold in your hand and lighter. I am a phone junkie I know.
Defy size is 107x59x13.4 and weighs 118g while the iphone size is 115.5x62.1x13.3 and weighs 135g.
I opened the compare link in the specs from gsmarena defy specs (link below)
http://www.gsmarena.com/compar...dPhone2=2826
Also Malik motorola is in the UAE. I was there three weeka ago and saw an ad for there Milestone 1 device.

For the amount of money spent we need more of these badass ruggedized DEFY-like smartphones.Other smartphone producers should take this trend seriously. ESPECIALLY those positioned in the "high end" and move on from that to the lower range.Slap a screen protector and probably an extra clear shell voila +1 to peace of mind.

A few years ago I ran the field operations of a water quality monitoring program. All the field officers carried Nokia ruggedized phones, they also carried non-ruggedized cameras that tended not to last all that long, plus they had need for portable GPS (fixed GPS units would get stolen from the boats). The field officers from the local water utility had similar equpment, plus some ruggedized laptops.
They are two examples of users to whom a ruggedized smartphone would appeal.
