Slayer, 16 Oct 2016Sounds like sour grapes to me. Nexus line is dead so get over it. Don't hear peeps whining abo... moreWhatever dude, I have a S7 Edge and In no way google pixel is better than it but it costs more than it...
I've got a Moto Nexus 6. It's now 2 years old. Wondering if I should upgrade or not, but don't want to spend Pixel kind of money. Wish Google had more phone options for Fi. Will probably resort to a 32GB Nexus 5X during Black Friday.

The way I see it, Pixel does not compete with the iPhone anyway. You can get an iPhone for pretty much any operator and iPhones don't have different versions for US/EU/Asia/whatever. So if you're not in the same league, why would you charge a similar price? It simply doesn't make sense.
And this is coming from someone who won't touch an iPhone with 10' pole.
Also, Nexuses have long missed features other phones had like dual-SIM and SD card slot. In their infinite "wisdom" Google saw fit to carry this shortcomings to the Pixel line as well.
So next, I'm going for the G4 hoping for decent upgrades (we'll see how that goes). I'd love to get the Z Play, but it's too expensive. After that, I really don't know what I'm going to get next. Not a Pixel, that much is clear.
Fitbri, 16 Oct 2016As the week went on, the updates on pixel news were great concerning Verizon. Nexus is nice bu... morethe "Innovative" as in "Restrictive" means? that's what I think when u said the world GOOGLE..
No external storage slot "just because" it could kill GDrive...
No removable battery "just because" it could make the phone "fatter"...
No dual-SIM "just because" Google think people only EVER use 1 SIM...
No Radio "just because" Google think no one listening to radio anymore...
No >3GB RAM "just because" Google think people won't ever open many apps at once...
No cheap Nexus phone "just because" Google think Nexus should be premium device...
and "No" many more...
Is this what u said Innovative company?
Come on, don't become like iSheep which agreed at whatever Apple made, did, & said.
Just to remained u, EVERY Google services that we can use ARE NOT 100% FREE.
Google is a profit company, not a samaritan or charity company. They made money from advertising, "selling" ur email adress to spammers, premium services, apps selling in GPlay, and several more tricks.
What people want is actually simple but IMPOSSIBLE for Google: an AFFORDABLE Vanilla Android with Decent specs and Regular Update guarantee from Google.
Since AndroidOne project pretty much "abandoned" by Google as no 1st batch get Nougat update, Nexus "premium" specs "killed" by rising Chinese phone maker, their only option is to get "head-to-head" with iphone & super premium Android phone (Galaxy S series, LG G series, Sony Z series, etc).
I hope this "ambitious" project from Google failed to attract people, therefore making Google abandoned Pixel phones, and reviving project Ara again!
Once upon a time, it was important to have the latest OS version, significant new features were available and highly upgraded apps and games demanded the latest OS.
This raised the added value of Nexus devices, now it is not!
Once upon a time the android devices had limited storage and Ram and the 3rd party companies stacked everything with bloatware that could not be uninstalled.
Once upon most of those devices had less than 2GB Ram and all that actually mattered, now it does NOT! Once upon a time the chinese companies only made cheap phones which compromised the looks, the quality, the performance, the premium feel, etc, Huawei, Xiaomi and oneplus though now have valid alternatives, great looks, premium feels, great camera, great performance, top of the line chips, amoled screens, no bloatware, so the Nexus device kinda lost the plot after Nexus 5.
LG was their best best to low prices, but the compromises limited their broad grasp.
Google tried to imitate Apple and unfortunately they have lost their way, they dropped the freedom, imposed no removable battery yet small capacity ones, no radio, no TV tuner, Apple sized bezels, no extended memory, more restrictions, less freedom, no real advantages yet the promise that the next update could be the one, but time and time again its more of the same...
Htc has built quality and Google love them, yet HTC has a very expensive production, jts a fine choice to make a premium nexus and rebranding only means that ghe will keep going like that from here on. I for one, i couldnt care less, my last nexus device was the HTC made nexus 9, which had top quality materials, yet quality issues, a super CPU/GPU combo by Nvidia, yet no drivers and derible performance because of that, the other nexuses were losing tge benchmark wars as well, so they are not vfm options anymore.
So what do they have left? Eccentricism, thats it, this is just an acceptance of their current nature, it was inevitable, last year was only a stopgap, this year has made it official!
I am not surpised and couldnt care less really, i am done with nexus devices anyway, they can shove their searchbar they are trying to impose on me where the sun cant it...
People...Google makes its profits from advertising and doubt the Nexus line ever turned a decent profit, low volume, low availability and occasional low (subsidised) price.
Google aren't interested in the nexus buyers from the past, what they want to do is to win their bet with Tim cook that they can take on Apple and beat them.
Never really liked any of the nexus range, the only one I had was the nexus 7lte and not because it was nexus but I my because there was nothing else half as usable at anywhere near the same price..
I suspect we are going to take a major step backward in the next 12-18 no the And most decent phones from big name non-Chinese firms will have locked boot loaders and be non-rootable,it's only a small number of us that have any interest in the idea of truly un-locked devices,95%+ of buyers have no idea or interest in really working with the hardware they have in their hands,no matter how capable or crippled it is,depending on your point of view,I demand un-locked boot loaders on a matter of principle, having ALWAYS bought my phones outright, why should I be locked out of my own possession ? It's like buying a normal 4 door family car, finding the rear doors welded shut for "safety" and never being able to use more than 3000rpm and nothing higher than third gear.
What people are buying now is not a phone but a "lifetime licence to use" exactly the same as farmers have found buying John Deere tractors, that they can longer repair or tinker with..
Anyone that thinks I'm going to pay £600+ for a device that I cannot do whatever I want with can go take a short jump off a high cliff..
Devices seem to be stagnating into pretty usless lump,I want a 5.9 inch screened device that can run x86 software's as well as make calls etc,I.E,a real palm pc..we still don't have one that can be bought,we have micro pc's but they have no com's capabity,we have com's devices that have no pc capability,by now we should all be carrying true palm pc's,except all the vested interests are against such an idea...
Sounds like sour grapes to me. Nexus line is dead so get over it. Don't hear peeps whining about the bezels on the iFruit phone. I'm gonna get the Pixel XL and couldn't give a toss what anyone else thinks. Selling my beloved N6P (gold) today....... hello Pixel XL.....
As the week went on, the updates on pixel news were great concerning Verizon. Nexus is nice but just a name. Pixel seems to be a logical and creative step in a world that has one consistency and that is change.
As far as I am concerned I embrace this classy stylish change. as an avid tech follower, Pixel has turned a good device into something fantastic. When you watch the live feed it is easy to see why.
Frankly, it does compete well in premium area. It is unquestionable. That competition is welcome and can only result in better so embrace it. Their is so much to like from an innovative company that gives so much to our daily lives and free.
"The comments had a fairly negative attitude"
Ha! Do you guys not normally read your comments? It's always full of negative crybabies.
What is really disturbing is the attitude. They just tot they can make an ugly looking fone that clearly has many disadvantages over 6 month old flagships too and say hey you know what WE made it and even put a BIG G on the back for you to know that.. so now the price is justified.
AnonD-93439, 16 Oct 2016"perhaps Google is targeting a different group" yeah, the L groupWhat group was nexus targeting? The same group who were starting to realise they could get better, cheaper phones like Oneplus 3 and other flagship killers?
The nexus had an extremely small, waning market, for little profit.
Android users aren't dumb like iPhone users to blindly buy an overpriced phone...
google need to get their head straight through this if they think they can get off of this after sporting economically priced nexus phones for a long time and all of a sudden drop a stupid nuke like the pixel
AnonD-571916, 16 Oct 2016Maybe if Google sells the nexus name and someone like LG or Sony or even Samsung buys it. And ... moreNaaah, this would never happen. If some other company could bring back Nexus, on the same principles, it would immediately kill the Pixel line, and on that Google would never agree. Luckily there are many good alternatives in the Nexus price range, and better choices on the top shelf G was aiming for with Pixels. You know why they changed logo from "Google" to "G". GREED!
AnonD-93439, 16 Oct 2016"perhaps Google is targeting a different group" yeah, the L groupYeah, I was gonna say...Google is trying to create new group of people, because as of now it's nonexistent group. Good luck with that.
Google got full of themselves (another ones). They got the phones out (with questionable design), a lot of missing features that you can enjoy on other devices, and the price tag, that even raised the eyebrows of Apple and Samsung users. On the other hand you have stock Android, 1st in line updates, camera (that apparently is the top dog on the market) and upgraded SoC, that doesn't bring any visible nor measurable improvement. Is this enough? People still argue, but most say - we don't want Pixel, we want Nexus back. I wonder if Google will actually listen to the fans, because people can simply pick better options in this oversaturated mobile market. It's a shame to see another decent brand getting on a "F you, give me money!" road.
"perhaps Google is targeting a different group" yeah, the L group
Maybe if Google sells the nexus name and someone like LG or Sony or even Samsung buys it. And they stick with the nexus look and stock Android. I would buy one.
AnonD-598454, 16 Oct 2016If one looks at what the Pixel is missing compared to flagship phones, it is obvious that Goog... morehehe missed your post by minutes...enjoy my febrile rant in the comments
