The Wise One, 15 Nov 2016Phones don't have 50 megapixel cameras for the same reason that they don't have 100 megapixel ... moreIt's 2021, we got some random phones that have 50 MP cameras and 100+ MP cams too.
@The Wise One your comment has not aged well, has it?
LG superfan, 13 Nov 2016Why dont current smartphones have 50mp cameraPhones don't have 50 megapixel cameras for the same reason that they don't have 100 megapixel cameras. However, I'm not sure why phones don't have 100 megapixel cameras, so maybe someone wiser than me will be along shortly!

But after release everything went upside down and it kinda began WP downfall (before 950 they had 3.5% market share). MS didn't care enough about their mobile OS platform, which was very transparent for both customers and 3rd party devs.
LG superfan, 13 Nov 2016Why dont current smartphones have 50mp cameraMegapixels matter very little if the sensor isn't good.
More megapixels with a crappy sensor will mean you can make a not so great photo bigger without losing the bad amount of detail given.
You want an insanely good sensor mixed with like 20 megapixels. will shoot like a DSLR from your pocked

With 0.4% of market share (stats f... moreIn late 2015 Microsoft released the Lumia 950 which was capable of working on both CDMA & GSM and was an extremely anticipated and popular phone as it meant it could work on any network on the planet
Only Verizon as CDMA network could activate phones for use in its Network which it refused and demanded? Microsoft switch of the CDMA antenna thus rendering the Lumia 950 a GSM phone only.
Whatever sales the Lumia 950 would have generated, it would be fraction of what the Google Pixel would have been.
That said there is no future for Microsoft on Verizon, so just not just a ban for Microsoft, no future for the OS, on a significant Network in the US.
If we accept that the figure is correct being banned from a major US Network hasn't helped
Here is a comparison of the 2015 950 v the 2016 Pixel http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?&idPhone1=8346&idPhone2=7262
That Windows PC / Laptop are so dominant makes the "squashing" by Verizon even more strange
Has MS already completed the synchronization of Outlook on the PC with mobile (Lumia / Windows phone)? Automatic sync chosen color in Outlook calendar with mobile. The whole world uses MS voor business, simply optimise you synchorinsation ad MS will be a winner
Anyone interested in Winphone better wait for Surface Phone. At this moment MS Lumia line is practically dead.
Stan, 08 Nov 2016I'll take a 12mp 2/3" sensor over a 50mp 2/3" any day. The noise performance in 808 pureview ... moreYou are so wrong.. As long as sensors use bayer filter there will be awful amount of noise even with the biggest sensor size.. Downsampling a picture with higher resolution will allow picture processing to remove noise(in Pureview system, 8 pixels are analysed and the true color will be selected).. Higher resolution sensor will also trump lower resolution sensor of the same size in broad daylight where the pixel size difference diminished because of ample light.. The higher resolution sensor will always win in terms of details, noise, dynamic range, etc..

If image information was lost no denoising and interpolation will restore it. Hense the low light performance difference between Sony A7s vs A7r(or anything else out there). The noise performance in 808 pureview and all top lumias with large sensors is only a fraction better than in a current day 12mp 1/2.5". I'll take a lower resolution, where i'll sacrifice the zoom capability, for low light performance, any day over a high res sensor.
In a smartphone, anything that is not perfect daylight = low light.

Supercars serve as halo vehicles. Technology demonstrators.
A Corvette for GM is like a Galaxy Note line for samsung(at least like it was before Note 7), on the other hand Lumia devices for msft are like Saturn or Hummer for GM - A half-dead production line that barely anyone buys.
Sure, to some they might have been good, but the whole Nokia exclusive debacle essentially killed it. They tried to play Apple(exclusivity in small numbers, with control freak-like grip on software), while they're only good at playing Google/Microsoft (flood the market with options and let the consumer choice win.)
Mr mobile has already reviewed the lumia 1030 McLaren... Why is this unearthed now again?
